How did you do this?
What books did you use? Prep books? Textbooks?
How hard was it?
What did you get?
How long did it take you?
Did you take any practice tests? Released ones? Practiced FRQs?

i self studied both econs this year in one-two weeks using a combination of princeton review and barron’s. it worked out pretty well, i read both books 2-3 times. i thought macro was a lot harder. scores just came, i got 5s on both

How did you do this? Zero Hour Microeconomics (1st Semester) and Zero Hour Macroeconomics (2nd Semester). Which, on a side note, killed. Class started at 6:40 every morning. And I couldn’t get out early because band was 8th hour, and I needed that to graduate. Hopefully the effort of zero hour paid off! (I still haven’t gotten my scores yet).

What books did you use? Prep books? Textbooks? 5 Steps to a 5, McConell Micro/Macro Edition 16

How hard was it? Decent. I think Macro, as a concept, is more difficult to understand BUT in terms of AP testing, I thought Micro was a more difficult test (And this could have been because we studied Micro first, so Macro was fresher in my mind).

What did you get? I live in fricking fudgestickles Nebraska, so I don’t know my scores yet. (All I need is a 3 to get credit, but a 5 gets me honors credit)

How long did it take you? The class? I probably had 5ish hours of homework due a week. There were 7 of us in the class, though, so we definitely got attention from the teacher. We had papers due like every 2 weeks… For a senior, it was my most difficult, time-consuming class. But senior year was a good year to take them, for me. Otherwise senior year would have seemed pointless.

Did you take any practice tests? Released ones? Practiced FRQs? Yeah… We probably took the last 10 years worth of released tests from college board. That includes FRQ. We spent all of April reviewing for the tests as a class

I used PR + 5 Steps and some AC DC Econ guy on Youtube.

I thought Micro MC was a lot easier compared to Macro MC. But the Micro graphs killed me. ATC and AVC curves all look the same to me for any type of business… I got 4s on both studying the 2-3 days before.

Most people are giving the amount of days that it took them to self study. Could I please have the number of hours. I feel that this is more accurate because I have no idea what a “day of studying” consists of. On that note, are you guys just reading the books, or are you guys also taking practice tests?

I’m self-studying for both macro and micro also…out of genuine interest :p

I bought a textbook called The Principle of Economics by Mankiw on Amazon, and 5 to 5 (2012-2013 version). They don’t have 2011-12 ver., though.

But what I am getting out of Mankiw is that most of the book talks about micro. But I think anyone could pull off essential macro facts off the book, common sense, and 5 to 5.

Oh and I started studying right after school ended, and I am “planning” to keep it up during the school year. Let’s just hope my plan works out.

5 to a 5 and Princeton Review

How hard was it?

Not too bad. I did better than expected.

What did you get?

4s on both.

How long did it take you?

I studied very little by little throughout the entire year. Kind of pointless. Better off just doing a decent amount of studying a few weeks before the test.

Did you take any practice tests? Released ones? Practiced FRQs?
Released FRQs.
