What is the best prep for the writing section of the SAT? What book is the best.. I heard barron is good but I want to hear what you guys think is the best...

btw, my writing score was a 540 first time i took it and 510 second time I took it. These scores reflected are from no prep at all.

Kaplan Kaplan Kaplan, it got me an 800. But I must say, improving writing isnt as easy as it is deemed to be. Many questions on the real test involve uncommon grammar structures and word choice errors that books don't cover.

To those of us who......

hmmm I bought the kaplan cd and it barely helped because it was so too short.

At my school, we barely go over grammar. That being said, what would be a good prep book that goes over basic grammar covered in the SAT and also complement them with good questions.

I read through the collegeboard book on writing, all it says is "be sure to look for parallelism, modifier placement and some other stuff". Problem is... I don't know exactly what to look for because they assume that students should know this stuff already. Which book might help me clarify the contents on the writing part of the SAT.

I haven't really looked at it yet but there's a long section on essay and a long section on the mc. I don't need the essay part. The mc part does seem to go over common errors.

i've done the kaplan and the barrons and the princeton review.. i think you should do the barrons b/c it does go over the basic grammar stuff and it's neatly organised--it goes over each problem type, giving you examples and etc. check it out =) (btw i started out 520 and now i'm up to 760)

I think I made a lot of careless mistakes on the writing because I usually do well on the practice tests. I'm thinking about getting a Kaplan. Does anyone own the Kaplan?

well i think like actually getting to know the problem types was the reason my score boosted ca. 200 points.. (when i first got the 540 or whatever it was, i had no clue what i was doing) i first did kaplan and princeton together (freshman year summer) and i saw the big jump (to like 710ish). but the barron one was the most comprehensive and helpful (more in-depth and had more explanations on basic grammar stuff that one is prone to forget)--it had all the information kaplan and PR had in their books. i really wish i just started with the barrons freshman year. and btw like the other standardized test books, barrons is way harder than kaplan and PR. good luck.
