Just curious, but does anyone know when falcon foundation and prep school get appointments???

Son recieved his falcon schlarship sometime in April 2006 if I recall

Appointments to the Prep School go out in March.

I believe the falcons hear of their USAFA appointments the second or third week of february

Do you apply to the prep school or is it offered to those who applied to the academy and almost got in?

You should let admissions know if you are interested

If I recall correctly, Civilians are not able to apply directly to the prep school. Most of the time, the only reason civilians get into the prep school is if the academy specifically wants that applicant (recruited atheletes) but for what ever reason, they are defficient in a specific area. OTherwise, the academy just rejects the candidate.

Also, I think enlisted airmen are able to apply to the prep school.

The Academy Prep School is for all civilians not just recruited Athletes. If the Academy wants you but feel you lack a bit in academics, they will offer you an appointment there. You do not apply directly to the Prep School.

Anyone: the 2010 class profile shows 2000 qualified candidates (with nominations) and only 1720 appointments. Were any of the 280 turnaways offered prep school appointments? Some? All?

The academy must have updated the profiles then. But I was one of those 200+ who didn't receive an appointment, but I was also offered a civilian prep school scholarship very early on, early February. I was one of the First to be offered a falcon foundation scholarship from what I've found. There are about 100 or so civilian prep school scholarships any given year. As for the actual academy prep school on the academy grounds, I don't know how many are given for that. But even with civilian prep school, your chances of getting in the next time you apply are phenomenally better.

With the civilian prep school, if there are about 300 or so who don't get in you've got about a 1/3 chance of getting a scholarship, but the scholarships are pretty much on a first come basis, so ask fast.

An examination of academy prep school enrollment indicates that the prep school is heavy on athletes, minorities, prior enlisted, and females. That's surely not to say that you won't be offered prep school if you're not in one of those four categories, but the prep school is definitely helping the academy to balance its needs and requirements in those categories. If all you need is a little academic boost, but don't have any other reason for entering the prep school, it is not as likely to happen. If anyone closer to the prep school has a better opinion, I will certainly stand corrected.

That sounds about right.
