I know that it's always a good idea to have the department see your face. Next week I will be visiting Penn GSE and I'm really looking forward to it! I've never been to Philly so this will be an adventure for me. I arranged a visit with them so it will be very personal. I just hope that they like me! Any advice? Is anyone else here applying to Penn GSE? Right now, GSE is one among my top choices.

See if they can arrange for you to meet up with a couple grad students, too. They can often give you information the profs can't

Have a great time! Philly's a terrific city!

Congratulations!

The GSE building is right on Walnut (the westbound "main-drag" across Center & University City) and so is very convenient.

One thing to see "for sure" (because it is so neglected) is the Penn Museum. They've just opened an exhibit on Amarna in conjunction with the soon-to-open King Tut tour. The museum is just a few blocks from GSE and the walk across campus will be interesting even if the weather is chilly.

Philly is very walkable when the weather is nice but for your visit that seems unlikely. The historic center is a $2.00 bus ride east from campus - the most convenient stop is at 34th and Chestnut in front of the Law School building. The same 21 Bus will bring you back on Walnut.

If you have more time to spend in town, just post - there a bunch of Penn and Philly denizens here on CC.

Thanks! I actually will be meeting with two gradstudents during my visit! I've just submitted my application online and will hand in my supplemental materials in person. I'm be sure to check out the museums. You know, the only thing I know of Philly is from the film 1776...lol.
