Also— do you have to wait to hear back about your pre screen to schedule an audit at unifiers??? or can you cancel your audition if you do not get in?? Thanks
@migno12 - unless they have changed policy from previous years- NYU Tisch does NOT require a prescreen. In fact, I didn’t think Emerson or CCM did either- but not sure b/c neither was on my kid’s list
@toowonderful you are correct. No prescreen for NYU, Emerson, or CCM. I felt like that might change for CCM this year.
When I auditioned for CCM this past year, the faculty seemed to be quite proud they put the work and time into seeing all the applicants in person as opposed to pre screening
Is there a current list of schools that DO require prescreens on a thread somewhere? I know Michigan, Ithaca, and Texas State… but not sure on others.
@migno12 You generally need to pass the prescreen to schedule an in-person audition. May schools with a prescreen process treat the in-person audition as your callback (at least your first round callback). Good luck.
Thanks so much to al!!!
@Sammy8028 - someone is always trying to put together lists of programs requiring prescreens. Unfortunately, by the very nature of this forum, they are incomplete at best and inaccurate at worst. While you can trust much of what is posted on this forum, always do your own legwork when it comes to the application/audition details of the programs you are interested in. The “which schools require prescreens?” is a moving target. It changes from year to year and as the number of students applying to MT programs increases, so does the pressure for non-prescreen schools to start implementing them. Go by what is on the programs admission website at this date in time - or when they update for this year’s application process. Three years ago, when my S went through this process, CCM verbally swore they would be adding prescreens the following year. They said it again the following year. As far as I know, that change has still not occurred. My S’s current school also said they were “thinking about adding prescreens”. Last year they implemented an “optional prescreen”. I don’t know what the status is for this year.
@mom4bwayboy it looks like Wright State is still optional prescreen. However they haven’t posted their dates yet for this fall. My D is applying there:)
For the last several years, WSU has been one of the last programs to update its application/audition information. Although I have no facts to back this up, and based on my limited knowledge of the faculty, I suspect that the powers that be in the Theater department feel the ever-escalating competition/pressure/anxiety that besieges the MT admissions citadels annually has gotten ridiculous and they wish to hold off lowering the drawbridge until the last possible minute. MT head Joe Deer spends a good deal of his summer teaching - in Toronto, Canada; Lincoln, NE; Hamburg, Germany; Winston-Salem, NC; Cincinnati, OH; Tamp, FL so far this year - and probably hasn’t had a lot of time to participate in decision-making for the upcoming audition season.
Ill keep an eye out. They are a top choice for us right now! Gotta fit it in. Although I do know they were at that open call at unifieds last yr but I think when my D emailed and asked about that the person they they “don’t go to unifieds” so we will see I guess…
I think the idea to participate in last winter’s open-call, off-site NYC unified may have been a late-in-the-season decision. It was the first time WSU did something like that. Although I could be wrong, I don’t think it was ever even posted on WSU website. It was organized by folks at Shenandoah and they did a lot more “marketing” than WSU.
