Presbyterian College Visit

Since some people on the Forum knew S and DW were including Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) on their recent trip, I feel honor-bound to post a report. Unfortunately, this was one of those situations where both S and W had gut feelings and felt immediately that it just wasn't right. They went through the motions of the visit, but honestly weren't paying much attention. As a result, I don't have much to share. They didn't even bring home the material -- tossed it in the trash while packing. I'm sure PC is a fine school -- the website www.presby.edu looks nice, and they are in the USNews Top 100 LAC list. The problem really was Clinton. Not a charming southern college town, apparently. Boarded up storefronts, what was still in business wasn't all that great. The type of town that always makes me think of an old Jimmy Buffet tune -- Ringling, Ringling:

Your just slippin' away
I wonder how many people will be there a year from today
`Cause the streets are dusty and the bank has been torn down
It's a dyin' little town

Anyway, the people at PC were perfectly nice and gave a good if abbreviated tour (didn't go in many buildings). But it pretty much went in one ear and out the other. This isn't the fairest review, and since PC isn't discussed much on the forum I would hate for this to be the only message people find if they're searching for PC information. So if anybody has better information, or a kid who's thrilled with PC, please feel free to contradict me.

Sorry it didn't give you a better feel. I don't know much about it, but know they have a bagpipe scholarship which is one of those little unforgettable bits if trivia.

I think that's St. Andrew's Presbyterian College, not PC. Maybe it's both?

Hmm. Maybe I'm confused. I spent the entire afternoon next to the rep from one of them, and now maybe I'm forgetting which one.

Bagpipes...I think it's St. Andrew's.

Thanks for the review. It's so difficult when a nice institution is somewhat stranded in a challenging location. It takes a person of great vision to see beyond the environment. And, when there are other, better offerings out there...well.... :(

Nice school, down a rural highway. Unfortunately, some people see the sign and decide to just just keep driving to SC-Columbia or the other way to Clemson. It's just an out-of the-way location that attracts only the dedicated.

I'm a freshman at PC. This college is BEAUTIFUL. Prospective PC students need to know that their lives will be TRANSFORMED here. I have never met as kind professors and people as I have at PC. To me, college isn't about having an enormous shopping mall or three story bar around the block. If you want to be able to get Starbucks at midnight, go to Carolina or Clemson. The secluded setting of Clinton allows campus to thrive, becoming more intimate and powerful for the academic and social changes we share at PC.
