I don’t even think my daughter has a date for BW. She has heard nothing and has kind of given up on them to be honest. She was accepted to University of Alabama Birmingham. As she said after the audition, “The more I learn about them, the more I like them.” She really liked the director. The acceptance went to an old email address (that she swears she didn’t use). She reached out to the director via email to ask if they received her transcripts because at the audition they hadn’t received them yet. The director responded, “Yes, and you were accepted. Didn’t you get the email?” Ah geez. You know there has to be a story sometimes, lol! I’m sure acceptances are coming for everyone. Sending good vibes to all of our kiddos!
I’ve heard good things about that program recently too!! Where do you live? It would be far for us, we are in Pennsylvania, and didn’t really consider the South. That’s so exciting!! I’m sure she will get more as well.
We are in the South, but that, FSU and UNCSA are the only programs in the South that she applied for-and Elon, which she didn’t pass prescreens. She had friends last year that spoke highly of UAB after Unifieds, so that is how she got interested. She actually told them that at the audition when they asked why she auditioned with them. I am impressed with what I have heard of the program.
how big is the class size at UAB. I’ve heard great things about the dance at FSU and the acting at UNCSA! Yeah mine didn’t pass Elon prescreen either. I truly think to be competitive at Elon you have to either be a boy or apply for the fall cycle (which was super early).
I don’t recall the class size at UAB. I’ll have to ask my daughter and get back to you. But they did say that the past 3 years every graduate has had a working contract at graduation-except for one, who had a full ride offer for an MFA. The instructors have almost all worked in the industry pretty recently. It’s an exciting energy there about the growth/potential they have seen, and I have heard there are also opportunities for theater work in Birmingham, which I had no clue about. My daughter is not a super strong dancer, so she is worried about FSU, but we’ll see!
Class size at UAB is max 16 according to my daughter.
so exciting!!!
My D applied for MT and just got the “no thank you” but was told by admissions she had to choose whether to apply to MT or Acting and couldn’t do both! How did your son manage to apply for both? Do you think it’s too late to submit for Acting now?
Not sure if it is too late for Acting consideration. My son emailed admissions to ask about applying to the Acting program too. He was told that if he wanted to apply to both, he had to let MT head know and then email Acting to tell them he wanted them to look at his MT submission material. Unlike other schools, applying to both programs did not seem encouraged.
Very happy for you! Looking forward to that feeling!
I remember you mentioning your daughter is in an MT group chat. Has anyone in that group heard that they were accepted? On this thread it seems that the kids that have heard thus far from Montclair MT have all been told “no”.
When was the audition for Point Park? We are waiting!
I just asked and she says so far Everyone on her chat is also a no for Montclair MT except she and one of her good friends were both waitlisted.
Thanks for that update. Congrats to your daughter for her waitlist! This process is grueling…
funny my daughter said a similar thing. I didn’t ask for who was accepted she just said " a lot of people got the rejection letter and the confetti letter." lol
My son was offered a chance to show them anything new he was working on- so he did a new monologue then it was more of an interview/chat
On another board there were I think 3 people that had acceptances from Montclair. I think it was 2 girls and 1 boy.
We still have heard nothing from UCLA
Often, schools can choose the “no” before the “maybe” and “yes” auditions. Some schools will inform you that you are being “held for consideration” which means they are going to wait until later in the audition season (or after all the auditions are concluded) before notifying you. So there is interest, but they want to see everyone first. And hearing “no” doesn’t mean they don’t like you or think you’re talented. It is about talent and type. They may already have one of you…heck, maybe 2 or 3. I am working with someone now who just got a callback to Ithaca and Michigan but was rejected by Alabama. Sometimes it makes no sense, but you have to know schools have limited spots and they know what they need for their proposed shows for the next few seasons.
thanks so much for this! our kids have all endured all the usual rejections of this process on top of their senior years being upended by covid so this is just really helpful to remember!!
