When was the Ithaca audition?

My D just filmed what we think will be her last dance combo today. She is burning out, and still has 3 to go. Whatever will be, will be.

Hopeful for good outcomes for all!

My daughter is doing the same thing. She dropped a few callbacks because she doesn’t have time to keep learning dances, do school work and compete during one-act play season. It truly is exhausting.

Definitely exhausting! My daughter is burning out as well, and i can tell the waiting is weighing heavily on her. It is on me, too! Luckily she picks up choreography quickly and practically lives at her studio so can knock dance combos out quickly. Two callbacks and a virtual info session this weekend, then one more audition next weekend, at least as far as what we know for now.

Question: Are any of you re-filming digital submissions and finding how much your child has grown as an artist since we first started filming prescreens way back in August? I know I am! I half wish these programs would all ask for updated material so they can see how much our artists have grown through this process. I’m so proud of all our kids. This is not for the faint of heart, and they will all come out stronger, I hope.

THIS! One school required that S retape his prescreen. At first, I was irritated, but now I understand how much they grow during this period - artistically and mentally. I am so vested in the all of the Class of 2025 succeeding!

DS did an early audition (October) that was supposed to be a final audition. He received feedback within one school a week later saying they wanted to see him again in a few months after he had worked more on his material. He reauditioned in January and was admitted a week later. It seemed odd at the time, but I am so grateful that they saw enough in him to give him another chance. That few months obviously made a difference!

This makes me so happy! Congrats to him!:blue_heart:

Yes! This is a huge part of the process an hopefully the kids recognize their hard work is for something, in and of itself, but also why some folks it’s better to wait to film vs rushing or not submit as a final if there’s an option because they will grow if they are doing the work!

If I had it to do over again (Dear God, please don’t let me have it to do over again.), I would hold off on some of her auditions until later in the process for that very reason. I said to a friend that I wished we had waited until later to audition for some schools, and her response was, “Yes, but she learned from those.” She absolutely did. The early auditions helped her to grow. It’s something for future classes to keep in mind, though I hope no year is quite like this ever again.

Yes and yes! For some, going early is fine. For many, waiting is helpful. But some early auditions are good for getting in the swing of things so those can be lesser stakes or even ones that feel so far it is really practice lol.

@MT25mom couldn’t agree more. My D’s first audition was at one of her top choices and it didn’t go well. Didn’t have rapport with the pianist, timing was off and she didn’t speak up, etc. Basically was intimidated. She improved immensely throughout the process and ultimately changed her material past the halfway point. She was accepted to some really great programs, but looking back, her final decision was between two of her last auditions.

It’s a crap shoot. You think you’d like to save the most important to last but you also may be competing for their last few spots. The good news is there are plenty of great programs out there.

@MT25mom As someone who IS doing this again (horrors!!!) I will second all of what you said! But if it makes you feel any better, this year my D purposefully scheduled things she cares most about in February and several in late February - she’s got 3 auditions on 2/27 - and now she is in a panic that most of their spots will be filled and she has an uphill battle. You really cannot win!!!

Yes to all of this! My D is tired of recording dance videos-one to go. And when I was trying to get her to apply early and get her prescreens done, she said “no, I’m not ready.” And she continued to work/rework them all Fall and submitted all applications the night before the deadline. She even presented the argument of the longer I wait the more I will learn and grow. So here we sit, hoping it’s not too late for some of the schools that she has yet to audition.
