Prescreening Results

Great news, pjfbass. You may want to PM bassplayer08, who is now a freshman at Juilliard. She may have some tips for you regarding the audition.

What does the email say when you passed? Does it say like Audition Date or Juilliard Prescreening Decision?

D passed vocal prescreening for Mannes, but only found out when she called today. She did receive an email later, after it was resent. Still waiting to hear from SUNY Purchase, Juilliard and Curtis.

Passed prescreen at SUNY Purchase!!!

Passed prescreening for NEC and Peabody. Audition date for University of Michigan was confirmed today. Still waiting for Eastman and Juilliard results. (for flute)

Has anyone received pre-screening results for Juilliard Bmus Piano Perf?

congrats to all who passed prescreening! i’m still waiting for SUNY purchase and Juilliard… (for flute). Since you guys heard back from them now, hopefully they’ll get to mine soon? So anxious!

DD called Eastman today. Was told she passed the prescreen :-))), but audition date hasn’t been set yet. Bard told her notifications will be sent after Feb 1st. ugh…

Congrats to all who have passed and Good Luck at your auditions.

Congrats flute1298…best wishes with the auditions!!!

so eastman hasn’t set the any audition dates yet?

lovely, they said not yet. The woman looked up her file and said "ok, you passed the prescreen, but we haven’t gotten to your 1st choice date yet (Feb 25). We’ll let you know soon. I’m not sure what will happen if she doesn’t get her first choice as her second is in 3 weeks and we already have another audition scheduled for that date.

D did not pass Curtis prescreening. Found out this afternoon.

I’m sorry hmh. Best of luck to your D on her other auditions. :)

thank you flute! i hope everything works out for you  i know msm has been behind also…

i’m sorry hmh. curtis does not pass prescreen based on students’ playing, so i am sure your D is still an amazing musician. good luck on all her other auditions! :)

What did you mean, that at Curtis they do not base their audition results on the actual CDs? What do they base it on?
My D passed her MSM audition screening, but not at Mannes , which we thought would be an easy one and Curtis was a no too. I am totally confused.
Please could somebody answer me these questions. What is the normal age of applicants for master degree in voice at Juillird, MSM, Mannes and Curtis? What do they look for in a singer at this level and do they give a preference to conservatory undergrad graduates to college grads? My D got into most of these conservatories for her undergrad but opted to go to an Ivy league school instead, where she studied with a very good teacher and attended a top summer program for a couple of years, but did not perform a lot otherwise. Is it true that most of singers take a couple of years of between undergrad and grad school?

tantara, i am sorry but based on my knowledge, i know that some instruments do not actually have to send in a prescreen DVD/CD. and they judge those students by their resumes, essays…etc. but i am not sure if that applies to hmh’s D. sorry for the confusion.

Curtis was based on a prescreening. There are also the letters of recommendation, etc. I think prescreening is weird because people’s opinions are so different. What blows people away at one school might bother another.

I don’t think preference to a college student vs conservatory. Talented singers come from both places. I’ve also known a few singers that took a year off between undergrad and graduate school and were very successful. You just have to keep practicing and performing.

D is not disappointed about not passing prescreening round at Curtis for BM/voice. It was a long -shot and I think she is relieved that she doesn’t have another audition to squeeze into her schedule. She did pass prescreenings for SFCM, Oberlin and Mannes, has auditions at Ithaca and Michigan and is still waiting to hear from Juilliard and SUNY Purchase. She has been accepted to WCC and at the end of the day, would be quite happy there. It’s been quite an adventure and I will be happy when she has decided on a school.

Quite true, but that is information that you can use in deciding whether a school and the teachers there are right for you.

Amen.

I think lovelybones may have been confused. No instrument, as far as Im aware, requires prescreening for Curtis. They choose those who they want auditioning through application materials & recommendations.

However… Voice requires pre-screening audition :)
