Heard from New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. D passed prescreen for BFA Jazz Studies Voice.

Passed prescreen at New School Jazz for BFA drums!!

YES they are out!

allegrovivace and flute1298. I heard from the university of michigan in december. got the email december 19 to be exact. I’m also doing a regional audition though and it’s scheduled for the 18th of this month.

I’m doing a transfer audition. I applied 2 years ago and got the email on the 15th of January, with the audition being in February. I think they’re just trying to let people know 1 month in advance of the dates they requested. Hope that helps.

Thanks, we just heard today. Looks like we’re going to Michigan :-)

Just got an email from Northwestern! Passed prescreening!

Congrats gyoun, I passed at Northwestern as well! I called Michigan and they said they would let me know hopefully some time next week. I requested a February audition. Still waiting on Eastman also.

Anyone heard from Peabody yet?!

anyone know how hard it is to pass northwestern prescreening? i’m applying next year for voice or musicology; it would be so sad to not make it past prescreening. how much is subjective, and how much is whether the song is technically good or bad?

allegrovivace, my cellist friend heard from eastman today i think. so hopefully you’ll hear from them soon!

Did anyone hear back from SUNY Purchase or Juilliard yet?

Purchase said they would notify people next week.

okay, thanks hmh!

We heard from Purchase on the 3rd. Maybe the jazz prescreens went out earlier?

How many of you passed pre screens at schools where you did NOT have a lesson. So far my daughter has passed at schools in which she has had a lesson (CMU, NU) and not at a school w/o lesson (NEC). Just curious…

Sunshinesmom, same here. I passed my prescreening for NEC and I didn’t have a lesson.

S passed all his prescreens before having contact with any profs about lessons. We live several thousand miles away from the schools, and so trial lessons were generally arranged for a day or two before or after audition day.

S had first audition yesterday. There was only Jazz faculty to listen. He did one movement from the Creston and they wanted him to move on to jazz. He played one song and they asked for another although the audition requirements web page only asked for one song. Fortunately (mother’s intuition) I suggested the night before that he bring a play along for one of his other jazz songs so he was prepared.

On the sight reading, the professor put a song on the music stand and asked S if he knew it, S said no and he started counting. So S said he had to start right in and didn’t even get to see the key signature, but by the bridge he got a handle on the song and finished well.

So before you answer yes or no to the question do you know this song on the sight reading portion of the audition, pause and check out the key signature first.

First audition is a safety school so the tough auditions lie ahead.

first thing you always do before you start a piece of music is look at the tempo, key signature, time signature or style ;)

what school was that?

Received an email today that I passed prescreening for Juilliard for Classical Double Bass! I’m so excited!!!
