I just wanted to make sure anyone interested in FSU has the most updated information and answer some questions I have been receiving.
We are accepting prescreens on GetAcceptd through December 30th, but audition appointments do fill up, so I recommend that you get them in earlier. Part of the prescreen is listing your preferred audition date and an alternate. If you pass the prescreen, you will will receive an audition confirmation along with the notice.
We will begin responding to prescreens on November 1st - all prescreens received before then will receive a response the first week in November. Prescreens received after November 1st will be reviewed on a rolling basis with responses sent about once a week.
The BFA Acting program is participating in the Unified auditions, but the Music Theatre program is not. All MT auditions are held on campus.
As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me an email!
@All4FSU - can you please clarify the requirements for the MT on-campus audition?
Are the songs limited to 16 or 32 bars - or can you sing two songs (<4 min each, which keeps the total time with 90 second monologue under 10 min slot). Here’s the website excerpt:
You are also asked to perform, within individual ten-minute appointments, two prepared contrasting musical selections (one ballad and one up-tempo selection) and a prepared 90 second monologue within your casting range.
@coronado - The songs are NOT limited to a specific cut. You can sing a full song if it’s on the shorter side, or choose a cut that works well for you. (It’s probably best if it’s not under 32 bars.) That said, if you have prepared and rehearsed a 32 bar cut for other schools and are comfortable with it, please perform what you have prepared! What is most important is that you be as relaxed as possible.
Thanks so much! Would a 2 minute cut be too long (i.e., 4 minutes for two songs, plus 90sec monologue to equal ~7 minutes of material in the 10 minute slot)?
@All4FSU - So this question is about the MT Summer Intensive. My D submitted her application about three weeks ago and we are waiting to hear if she was accepted. If you don’t mind me asking, usually how long does it take to hear back as it states that it is on a rolling basis. Thank you.
@sunlioness thanks for the heads up. I’m so sorry about rejection email. Mines prepared for either but it’s the waiting that’s hard. Is your D applying for any other programs?
@minicp
We are sending them out as the faculty make decisions. some yesses and nos have gone out, but the bulk of them will likely go out the first week of March. - Michele
Thanks @minicp. D is a young rising junior and will try again next year. She will do some theatre things close to home but FSU’s camp was the biggest one she applied for. It was hard to wait and now I think she regrets having turned it in so quickly because she was unable to update her application with spring musical roles. She’ll know for next year. Good luck to your D!
@singdanceact67 Let’s hope so. I can’t stand the suspense. On the other hand my son is cool as a cucumber and doesn’t seem to worry about it one bit. Argggg. Teens. I think if I type FSU on my keyboard one more time the keys may freeze.
Everyone will get a letter either way. For accepted students, the letter will follow after a phone call. This year there will also be a very small wait/alternate list.
@All4FSU So if you were hoping to generate the letters today, does that mean phone calls have already been made to the students who were accepted? If not, when WILL phone calls be made? Thanks!
The letters take several days to print and get into the mail- it’s a fairly arduous process. No calls have been made yet and I can’t say exactly when; several people make them and it is a bit dependent upon individual schedules. I’m not willing to commit to a time line for the calls, but I can let you know when they have been completed.
Best wishes to everyone,
Michele
