Presidential Honors Scholars

Hey CC,

I am a rising Sophomore in CAS and applied to the Presidential Honors Scholars Program last month. I was just wondering if anyone knew any admission statistics for it? (such as notification date, what percentage of applicants are admitted, etc.) Since it has a GPA minimum of 3.65 anyways, I was wondering if they just end up taking the majority of students who apply since they're at the top of the class already. I am dying to find out whether or not I got it....and I realllly wanna go on the trip to Madrid!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

who is this available to? I’m an incoming frosh

From what I could tell when I did it, you might have to wait a bit longer for them to figure out how many people are dropping/being kicked out of the program before they finalize acceptances into it. Then again, the entire process is incredibly holistic, so it’s a bit of a crapshoot anyway.

i’m going to be a sophomore next year too and i applied in may. fortunately i got my acceptance letter just a few days ago so it should come soon! i think they basically accept everyone who has the gpa for it. i’m hoping to go to either prague or london for the spring break trip. good luck if you haven’t gotten news back!

I went to Prague for my sophomore year trip and studied abroad in London, so I can tell you that both places are amazing.

Congrats to you csh! I got my letter really recently too and I am stuck between choosing Ghana and the Czech Republic.

@clout: as an incoming freshman, CAS offers the Program to the top 5% of all incoming freshman. afterwards, whether or not you got in freshman year, you can apply for it each year, granted you have at least a 3.65 or something realllllly close. like I applied after freshman year ended and will be a Scholar during my Sophomore year.

But, my main question is about the scholarship. I didn’t get into the Program freshman year, so this coming year will be my first in the Scholars Program. From what I’ve heard, there’s a nice scholarship that comes with the program. But, I haven’t heard a word about it yet, if I even will at all. I received my financial aid letter, which was sent out way before Scholars Program decisions were decided, and it did not include any Presidential Honors scholarship. I was wondering if we get one at all?

I would be grateful for any answers! Thanks!!

what are the spring break trips like? around how much do they cost you?

It’s about $300 (or was when I went), and they’re a lot of fun. It’s a week partially spent learning about wherever you go through activities NYU plans (like a tour of the old Jewish district of Prague with the rabbi of the city) but mostly you get a lot of free time to explore and just enjoy yourself overseas.

im wondering about the scholarship too. i was admitted into the program (as a sophomore), but i haven’t heard anything about any money. on the CAS honors programs webpage, they make it sound like you only get financial assistance if you were admitted into the program as a sophomore. ([NYU > A & S > Honors Programs](http://cas.nyu.edu/page/ug.HonorsPrograms.html))

has anybody heard anything definitive about this issue?

i’m hoping if they do offer scholarships to sophomores, that they’re purely merit-based, since i didn’t qualify for financial aid. apparently nyu has “merit” scholarships that you can only get if you qualify for financial aid.

Is this only for majors in CAS? so a Stern student doesn’t qualify?

Nope, it’s only a CAS scholarship. Stern might have their own scholarships, though.
