presidential honors scholars

anyone gotten in yet? what are your stats? should we assume we are not in if we have not heard yet? thanks!

Hi there. I got a letter before my packet (Actually, I got both on the same day, but the letter was dated before the packet).

You can look up my posts, but it was high 700's, 3.9, etc.

I've gotten it. ehh..
my GPA is 3.89, SAT 2180 @_@ lots of band extracurriculars. can anyone tell me the perks of this program? I'm trying to decide between colleges and this could be the tie breaker!

any scholarship money involved?
is it a "big deal"?
how does it help you?
can you join after freshman year or later on ?

I got 25,000/yr.

I assume it is, seeing that's how much i got :P

You might want to ask the FA department for that.

yeah, same here. I'm interested in the programs though. The letter says you get to meet people...go to places.... but I want more details.

Do you happen to know when that essay is due, anyway?

meh, you have to pay to go places and the people you meet really aren't that interesting.

You do get a Collegiate Seminar class during fall semester, and mine (American Wars Past and Present: Vietnam and Iraq) happened to be the best class I've ever taken in my life. Other then that, you get money and a pat on your back saying "congrats, you're at the top 5% of our accepted students". everything else about the program is pretty lame. But meh, free money. why not?

clone22, are all the other classes we attend just regular MAP classes? And how were the trips abroad? Thanks!

Sorry, yet another question

CAS Scholarship =/= Presidential honors scholarship?

Actually, I believe they're one and the same.

wow guys, congrats that a lot of money!!

we can all study abroad though right?

Oho, I think you're right sylenteck. I had a whole theory worked out until I just reread the letter. Oh well, that's too bad.

Except! Another discrepancy--a friend of mine received a CAS scholarship in December after applying ED. NYU says that they do not designate students in the Presidential Scholars Program until all applications have been finalized. She said that her final Finaid statement was mailed to her later on, but since she already got the CAS scholarship in December, I assume that is something different from the Honors scholarship? She only got ~10,000. Maybe the 25,000 is a compilation of everything?

Can anyone confirm/disprove speculations? (:

Is this only for CAS or is it for Stern as well? Not to be cocky or anything, but I was under the impression that I was among the top of the applicant pool, but I only got a Stern Scholarship.

this is only for CAS

So if I call up the Office(FA or Admissions?) to inquire about my scholarship money, will they be able to tell me the amount???
Any current scholars, please do say when did you receive your amount??

No, financial aid also plays a part in the scholarship.

so ur saying that financial aid plays a part in getting the honors presidential scholarship money?

i think nyu should have an honors program besides the presidential one because than only recognizes the top 5% and they should have something representing the top 15% too, i dont know, just a little thought, ahah

I didn't apply for FA, does this mean I can still get the scholarship money or no?

^ same question
