My parents are super psyched that I was given 38,000 in aid for the 2013-2014 school year, which almost covers tuition. But, is the money I receive from NMF presidential scholarship included in the financial aid?

Don’t think so.
In my account, it only says a 4k in University Scholarship and 5k in subsidized loan.

However I also got NMF and marked USC as my first choice. So I don’t think NMF money was added in.

However ONCE NMF is added into your account, your aid might change.

That would be great if I could get the additional scholarship. But my mom just told me that since usc’s financial aid already exceeds the amount of money I get in scholarships, NMF will not be included in the aid package, and only scholarships NOT provided by USC will work.

but in your case, you probably will get that additional scholarship. Congrats!

You should read through the first several pages of the financial aid thread by Alamemom. It discusses how merit scholarships and financial aid work together at USC.

Thank you. So is it possible that my natinoal merit scholarship will replace one my my other scholarships/grants? Or will it just be void altogether?

^Yes, unfortunately merit scholarships usually replace grant aid first in financial aid packages (at all schools). However, it is possible to ask for the scholarship to offset loans and work study (it doesn’t hurt to try this-- especially if you are a terrific student and they really want you). Some have been successful with this type of appeal and it really helps.
