I got my letter telling me that I received the presidential scholarship today, can I still get other scholarships or is this the limit? Also does anyone know how generous maryland's with financial aid?

I don’t know if you can get more money. May I ask how much you received and what your basic stats are? Thanks.

Can we still get departmental scholarships, and when do they come out?

I came on here to ask the same question. Although I appreciate the scholarship I really need more to attend.

It says on their website (a quick search for University of Maryland scholarships will get you to the exact page) that the Presidential scholarship goes up to $12,000 / year, although I have yet to talk to anyone who got that much.

I got $8k a year (32k total), which is pretty solid imo (roughly 50% of tuition in state)

Anyone know about departmental scholarships?

Those who have received scholarships, are you in state?

Yes and I got one

I am in state. 20K over 4 yrs.

Did we have to fill out FAFSA to be considered for merit scholarships? I assumed that it is just for need-based money, right?

I think you needed to fill out fafsa regardless.

I got $32,000 for 4 years, in state. I heard it was something all honors got?

nah
i know someone in honors who got 20k total

Also Honors and 20K over 4 yrs. So privledged to be one of only 7 accepted into my major but I may not be able to make this work. Hoping to hear from lots of the private scholarships I have applied for and will keep applying for.

Can those that received a scholarship post their stats

Son got $20,000 total - 4.0 unweighted, 2,270 SAT. Had been hoping for more and now hoping to negotiate. Anyone know anything about negotiating these Presidential Scholarships?

I’m so excited to have gotten a scholarship! I’m in-state, Honors, and have a 3.48 GPA (I didn’t really do any work freshman year… whoops!) and 2340 SAT (780/780/780). I got $32,000 over 4 years, which I’m very pleased about! With need-based scholarships and JHU tuition remission, it should come down to less than $5,000 a year.
I’m hoping to get a departmental scholarship (Math), but I’m not really sure how they work. I saw on the UMD site that students should contact their individual department to find out about scholarship opportunities, so I think I’ll do that soon. I hope I haven’t missed any deadlines!
If anyone knows… well, anything at all, really, about the departmental scholarships, info would be much appreciated!

Son hasn’t had less than an A for 4 years in HS, 7 Ap classes, #11 in his class, etc the awards so far seem to be 100% SAT based. He has 1390/1600 and 2170/2400 He was awarded $1,500 one time non renewable. Was hoping for a little better but We’ll have to find a way to make it work. He’s hitting Fastweb and others hard now. He was admitted Honors so not all Honors received big $.
P.S. In State no B/K offer obviously

Only got 8k altogether for presidential scholarship…

so if it says amount of 8000 to be given equally over 4 years that means i got 2 a year? it says presidential scholarship

Same question ^
