Presidential scholarship

Has anyone received the Presidential Scholarship. Criteria is in state and valedictorian/ salutatorian. DD meets this criteria, but was awarded an Academic Excellance scholarship. 1/2 tuition vs full tuition

I think that particular scholarship might not be given out until the end of the school year. Many schools don’t have those one and two spots determined yet, so that may come down to the wire for lots of kids. If your D is a lock for number 1 or 2, I think it’s a safe bet that she’ll get full tuition. (maybe you can ask her GC to check on this)

I’m ranked 2 in my class and I received full tuition merit in my decision letter. On the UConn website, it says that valedictorians and salutatorians are considered for the Presidential Scholarship, not guaranteed.

@crystalmeowth, was your scholarship called an academic merit or the Presidential Scholarship? One site I was looking at implied all Val’s and Sals were essentially entitled to it. Guess I need to research a bit more.

@chillkitty, DD is officially #2. Her school ranks after the 2nd quarter - gives the kids time to work on speeches for the ceremony. I’ll have her ask the GC to check with UCONN. not certain if they sent in official stats. I’m happy with 1/2 tuition, but would love full ( wouldn’t we all?).

It was the Presidential Scholarship.

@x2017seniorx @chillkitty S had the 6500 academic merit in his acceptance letter, but today received a separate letter stating he has been awarded the Presidential (supercedes the other, not stacked). Full tuition (although they don’t call it that because the amount will not change as tuition goes up), plus a 2500 credit towards some scholarly endeavor.

Hoping your kids get it too!!

Either they had to delay some (?not sure they had enough $$??) or someone messed up.
Frankly, I’ve found UCONN admissions to be the worst. Not only are they so vague with their merit scholarships (both requirements and amounts) but just with my previous two kids who applied (neither attended) we had numerous errors…wrong major, Honors!, then no Honors, then !Honors!, and forget about getting any assistance by calling or emailing. So it doesn’t really surprise me.

Glad they got their act together. S might actually be a little more likely to consider UCONN now. Still waiting on a lot of schools though…

Thanks for letting me know, @WhataProcess. Our mail hasn’t come yet, so now I know I should go to the mailbox today! I don’t know if D’s school has certified val/sal yet…last year this wasn’t announced until May. It would be great if D got it, but truthfully, I don’t think she’d want to go regardless. We’re doing the waiting game until the bitter end, too. Best of luck!

Oh yeah, not impressed at all with UCONN’s administrative processes…D15’s stuff was a mess, too. She didn’t go either.

DD got the same letter. She’s pretty excited. I’m thinking UCONN is in the running now! But then again, this is the 1st school she’s heard from…
