I registered and paid for my daughter to attend Preview in June, but it asked if I wanted to pay to attend Family Preview. I didn’t but now wonder if I should have. What is Family Preview? Am I supposed to attend Preview with her? She spends the night so this doesn’t make sense.
Family Preview takes place at the same time as your daughters Preview. I always thought it was just a way to get the (helicopter) parents away from their children, during Preview.
It’s two days of events and sessions. Most are separate from your children’s, but you do get to meet up for lunch and sit in on some of the sessions (for example, in the college breakout, you can join your daughter during the presentation and Q&A). Family Preview also includes tours of campus and Gainesville, sessions on financial aid, safety, etc. Since I was going to spend the night in Gainesville (while she stayed in the dorm), I went ahead and signed up and went through several of the presentations and just hanged out on campus.
It really is optional.
@Gator88NE Okay, I was hoping to give her the space to attend Preview on her own. However, I wasn’t sure if I needed to be there to sign anything or to help with registration. Years ago, my parents were required to attend orientation at another college so I wasn’t sure. As a family, we took a formal tour of UF and have visited campus several times.
You don’t need to attend, though it can be helpful if you want to setup her bank account and such. Or if you want to sit through the presentations.
Otherwise she should be able to handle it herself.
Thank you @Gator88NE
