Are parents expected to come to Preview?

Are we expected to go to Preview with our parents, or is it alright to go alone? Also, what exactly do we do at Preview?

Also..If I want to major in econ. LS means I would take econ in the business school, and BA means I would be in the Liberal Arts/Sciences College, right?

I’m going alone… June 28th/29th

my parents don’t have money to spare to come to preview with me so I’m also going alone: June 20-21.

There’s a seperate preview for parent. So, regardless of whether they come or not, you won’t spend much time with them. It’s just your parents decision whether they want to attend their preview or not.

For economics:

BA = Liberal Arts and Sciences

BSBA (or just BS) = Business School

Can anyone shed more light on this? It’s an option for my parents to come… but is is it worth it? ANy advantages?

If they’re not familiar with the university already, then the Preview is a great opprtunity for them to get acquainted with the school and its resources provided forvtheir son or daughter. It’s not required, it’s by choice. My mom didn’t see a need for going, since She’s a Gator herself and is familiar with everything based on the info online and in our local reception.

When we went a couple of years ago, I will say most parents attended. I’ll admit, by the second day a lot of parents were taking full advantage of the empty chairs and napping while their kids were busy with their stuff. Graduating from high school and leaving for college is an exciting time for everyone. To me, this was part of that process and I’m glad both my husband and I attended with our son. If you attend without your parents, you’ll be perfectly fine, too. Either way, enjoy the experience. :)

Both my husband and I are Gators, we’ve been on the tours and honors presentation. Is there any advantage (besides supporting our son–we are going up with him to G’ville) to attending the family preview?

gouf78…No, not really. Bank accounts are opened, parking permits purchased, etc. There were info sessions from several departments, many of which we did not attend. Other than that, there is no advantage to you going. Also, if your son is in the Honors Program, although they register first (at least that’s what my son did in 2009), they were not allowing them to leave early on the second day. They kept the groups together so everyone left at the same time (around 4:30 P.M.). That’s why I said lots of parents were napping on the chairs. I think by that point, we were all tired!

I am going to the HS/AA preview. Would that change anything in regard to my parents’ experience at Preview? Will there be any additional benefits?

Me too! Same orientation date :)))

HS/AA? Yay! Hope to see you there! :)

Plead your parents to not go. This did not work on my mother who insisted she was going and to let her go so she could spend as much time with me as possible before I left for college. My dad who was already used to how ****ty orientation is said that he would gladly skip out on this one.

Long story short, my mom came up with me, spent an hour and a half at orientation and said to me “I’ve had enough, I’m going back to your brother’s apartment”

Orientation sucks guys and it’s best spending it with your friends. I went to the HS/AA orientation and pretty much skipped most of the parts that weren’t mandatory. I spent that time with some friends.
