Preview

I have two questions about preview maybe some people can answer:

What do students do at preview? I mean specifics. I can only find general information about it... I mean what specifically do we do? What kind of activities are there?

And what do families do on the optional 1 day family orientation?

I will attempt to describe what I remember of preview from summer 2012.

-intro presentation by assistant dean
-everyone splits into small groups & is assigned 2 advisors: an undergrad (preview staffer) & a faculty member (mine were a junior bio major & a czech language prof)
-presentation on general graduation requirements (# of credits, gen ed, gordon rule, etc.)
-choose 2 presentations for colleges you might want to pursue a major in (I chose CALS & CLAS)
-choose 2 presentations on tracks & programs that interest you (I chose pre-health & undergrad research)
-a presentation about technology on campus (setting up internet) & financial stuff (aid, scholarships, payment)
-a housing presentation
-watch a skit show with the preview staffers that show how to deal with various situations in college life (not a good description, but you’ll know what I mean when you see it)
-make a list of classes you would be interested in taking for gen eds & critical tracking for major
-register for classes
-tour around main part of campus
-learning various cheers for football games
-get ur Gator 1 card (student ID card) - used for food, vending, printing, laundry…the list goes on
-set up a Wells fargo acct (for leftover financial aid, not sure if optional or not, but I made one)
-campus tour (the east part between jennings & the stadium)
-presentation on extracurriculars, sports, etc.

BEFORE your go, make sure you have completed Preview Prep, the Chem placement test, & the Math placement test. I’d also recommend that you send your AP/IB/AICE/CLEP scores and/or dual enrollment records to UF asap, because, depending on when you have preview, you may already know what credits you have, and what areas you lack in.

Bring a photo ID (license, passport, etc.). Also bring some money (if u didnt already pay for a meal) a sleeping bag, pillow, change of clothes, & toiletries (since you’ll be spending a night at Jennings). Also, while in Jennings, there will be various organizations tabling there in case you want any info on them.

Be sure to get up & get ready early, because I think you have to check in around 8 AM, and the lines will be very long. The sooner you check in, the sooner you get food ;)

As for families…most of the time, they stay with the students, but as for the meeting when you split off from them…I unfortunately have no idea.

I hope you enjoy Preview. Welcome to the GatorNation! :)

What is the Preview Prep thing? S has to do preview in the middle of IB exams so I’m helping him some (he’s picking the classes don’t worry!).

To be honest, I have no idea what it is. I came to preview unprepared (didn’t take the placement tests, and didn’t do preview prep). Everything worked out though. lol

Excuse my ignorance but preview is for after you get accepted? Is it after you say “yes” or in between? Thanks.

preview is the orientation; you can schedule it before you decide (which is what i did), but i doubt you’d get your money back if you decide UF isn’t for you.
