Chandler - if the parents are going to Previews with you, maybe others of us can try to take them off your hands (re: your earlier post). I will be there with S, who is undecided. Just put ChandlerBing on your name tag and the posters here will keep an eye out for you ;). Actually, I suppose there are no name tags, so as not to be TOO conspicuous.

I’m thinking of going to a class myself. I wonder if that’s allowed. I’ll have to see if S would let me do that with him or in a parallel class. I’m kind of curious myself, especially to see one in my own field.

Last year when my S went to previews, his host took him (with permission of the professor) to a class that the host was taking but was not on the previews list. That class was probably what persuaded my S that Williams was the place to be. The level of engagement of the students in the subject matter was so exciting.

I’m not familiar with most of the classes on the previews list, but I can recommend anthro 101 and Professor Brown, whom my S thinks is great. (Tuesday morning, I think)

I’m so excited for Previews, I have yet to pick which classes I’m going to but I think Basic Chinese will be one of them.
Hahaha I think I’ll pass on putting ChandlerBing on my name tag
My parents were actually VERY non-intrusive when I went to Cornell today, I was extremely impressed. I called THEM to see what they were up to after like 5 hours of not seeing/speaking to each other.
I was exhausted by the end of the day, and they reported to me that they chilled, enjoyed the sun, and had ice cream while I was running around from tour to tour, class to class.
So I think they actually won’t be interfering at all at Williams, which will be great!

Gotta love how college visits, of all things, make you appreciate your parents even more.

dude. chandlerbing. i was def planning on attending basic chinese. i dont know what session though. how awesome do these classes sound!!! oceanography? history of jazz? haha and beginner ballet! i think id stop by that one even though the only ballet ive ever done was when i was four and i quit after 2 months because i sucked so bad…maybe ill pick it up again at williams? :D

what time are most of you arriving? im getting there around noon, then leaving about the same time the next day. i def wish i was staying longer though, but its a pain because i have school and good flights were challenging to find…

whitelily: Yeah! the classes are just ridiculous… I want to take all of them, haha. but im going to try to get there early on monday since it’s only an hour away from where I live, and I have to leave at 9 AM on Tuesday.
but the good news is that the night activities should be awesome, haha.
does anyone know if there are going to be any parties on Monday night?

me too, I’m so pumped!
the host email thing I got last night was so cool, there are kids from all over the country coming.

yes there are so many people coming! and im one of those people from far away - SoCal represent!!! i can’t wait to meet everyone - im assuming the night activities are for the class of 2013 to get to know each other? or will we be with the other williams students as well? either way, it will be so awesome!

i hope that us pre-frosh can get together in groups and visit classes together - i dont want to be wandering around campus all by myself…or worse, with my mother! haha :P

oh, another question: are you pre-frosh going to email/get in contact with your host ahead of time? im thinking i’ll just say hi and write a little introduction about who i am, what i like, my hobbies, etc - and to say thanks ahead of time. what do you think?

:D I’m taking the noon (ish) shuttle back to the airport too!
If everyone hasn’t gotten the e-memo yet, the shuttle has been pushed back to 12:30pm.

I did take classes at dartmouth (or shall I not say the D-word here?)…most of them were really good.

I’m planning to take 2 classes before leaving on tuesday (HIST 228 The U.S. and the WOrld 1914-present and PSCI 202 World Politics&Intro to IRL anyone???!!!).
But then again, I’m trying to take 3 classes on Monday, which I think might be overkill, so I might only take 2 on monday.
BUT BUT BUT…classes = LOVE. :D

I want to wish everyone going to Previews a bon voyage. Have a great time & learn what will help you decide where to go.

For those not able to go to Previews because of scheduling conflicts or other reasons, you still can visit. My son did this & saw the campus on typical days.

Either type of visit is an important piece of information primarily because of Williams location in an accessible but relartvely remote part of northwestern Massachusetts.

limetime: Really? I haven’t gotten any e-memos about that, but that’s probably because I signed up for the 9 AM shuttle… I just sent the lady an email asking if I could switch to 12/12:30.

Haha, it’s fine to say Dartmouth… but that’s good.

Yeah I’ll probably take 2 classes on Monday and one class on Tuesday. I still have to pick them out, though. definitely taking basic chinese
that’s total overkill lol!

Thanks, Tuppence. it’ll be important for a lot of us, I think, in aiding our decisions whether or not to go to Williams
seems like a fair few have been brainwashed by Dartmouth already ;)

Any comments on the Previews? My S and I were there on Monday, and not Monday night or Tuesday. I was surprised by the number of confirmed acceptances who were there. I thought it might be mostly undecideds.

I was hoping for a bit of Q&A at the session with the President and the others, wondering whether something interesting might be asked. Of course, the risk is questions that might not be in keeping with the desired upbeat tone.

Oh, I was more interested in what other people were going to ask, to see what was on their minds, rather than asking questions myself. One of my concerns was not something that could be answered anyway, which is the estimated COA the next three years. A three-year increase from $52K at 6% per year would mean $62K for senior year for 2013s. Would Williams consider that a reasonable estimate?

The academic open house, the special tours, and the accessibility of admissions and FA officials were admirable and gave lots of opportunities for individual Q&A.
