Princeton 2019 SCEA Hopefuls Thread

@emenya OMG GOOD LUCK!!! I can only imagine how nervous you might be right now!! How does QuestBridge work, exactly? Could you hypothetically get into Stanford, Yale, and Princeton early and then choose where you want to go? Is it binding?

@Ambitious19‌ Thanks so much! Imagine panicky shivers throughout today, that’s how I’m holding up XD

So the deadline for Questbridge was late September (so early, I almost missed!). QuestBridge itself selects its finalist from all the applicants and we find out if we are finalists in late October. I think last year there were like 12000 applicants and 4000 finalists were selected. Then the finalists have about 9 days to submit additional applications to up to 8 out of the 35 partner schools by their November 1st deadline. Only 4 of the schools are nonbinding (Stanford, Princeton, Yale, M.I.T lol). The others are binding if you get accepted. So yeah if I get into all three tomorrow (HA!) then I get to choose where I want to go. I think the best part is, besides getting a guaranteed full ride, everyone gets deferred and considered for RD. Hope this explanation helps :)

@emenya - that is really cool! Please let us know how it goes :slight_smile:

hey @emenya I’m a QB finalist too and I’m pretty sure you only get matched to one school. So tomorrow you will either get Princeton or another one of you schools, not all three.

Hi everyone! I’ve been stalking this thread for the past few days and I decided I too, wish to be vocal in my endeavors and feelings in SCEA to Princeton. Just so you know!

Did anyone else have an impromptu interview? After I got my interview notification, I didn’t hear from my interviewer right away. About a week later, I got called down to the guidance office during school, where the secretary pointed me to the conference room and said that a gentleman from Princeton was there to speak with me. Has this happened to anyone else? I was pretty much speechless, and dressed far less than professionally–I had stayed home sick the day before, and still wasn’t feeling quite up to par. Are the interviewers allowed to do this? Being caught off guard is an understatement.

<a href=“For Accomplished Students, Reaching a Good College Isn’t as Hard as It Seems - The New York Times”>For Accomplished Students, Reaching a Good College Isn’t as Hard as It Seems - The New York Times;

This is an interesting read/take. Although our chances of getting into Princeton may be only slightly better than the published averages, chances are we WILL get into one of the many great schools I’m sure a lot of us are applying to as well.

I hope this is reassuring to everyone. It most certainly was for me.

Shall I go ahead and make a “Results” thread?

@nolasaxman I think users will post their decisions in this thread.
Besides, I think it’s better if we post them here, as we can see our whole journey from working on apps to decisions, but that’s just my opinion

I think it would probably be more organized to keep detailed results in another thread. So maybe in this one say something like "I got in! :slight_smile: " or “I got deferred.” if you want to follow up on your previous posts here. Full stats and comments should probably go in another thread just so this one doesn’t get too clogged. I don’t know though, just my opinion.

IMO it’d be tidier if there was a separate thread for decisions, as this thread is already 29 pages long, idk

That Times article was comforting, but I’m still super anxious about Princeton

and yeah it’s harder to navigate this thread for those that are just looking for pure admission stats

Good luck to all of QB’s!

hey all, I’ve been following this thread forever and it’s the first time I’m making a post… just want to say good luck to you all and please don’t let decisions impact your sense of self-worth or anything. it’s not worth it. last night I reread my essays and felt like shooting myself, but in the end we’re all young and learning how to communicate about ourselves through words. I have faith in all of us, we’ll make it eventually. anyways, 2 more weeks. godspeed.

also I had my interview a loooong time ago and the interviewer spent the first 5 minutes basically telling me that interviews don’t matter. so don’t stress! princeton even puts an unofficial cap time of 1 hr on interviews (mine went over, so the interviewer told me this) so as to not give applicants false hope. It really seemed like the interview was just an informal chat about princeton!

@ninadasiy Oh yeah you’re right! Because of the ranking order. Thanks for clearing that up

Also,

LOL like that’s going to happen =))

Is there a separate results thread already? :O

@otter101 here it is
(Thanks @nolasaxman )
