Princeton ED Lounge

I'm really nervous because I know how much of a long shot it is, but at least I'm trying right?

I just sent in my application online today. It was too easy! Three clicks and I was left with a most unfulfilling feeling. Now for the loonng wait...
Actually, I just got the paper app today so I'm sending in the optional form...are you guys going to give them a picture of yourself? it just feels so impersonal...

First off - I love our lounge.

Second, what kind of things are you guys putting on your optional form?

I need to explain my senior year dual enrollment somewhere, but would rather use the optional form to talk about my internship

Wow, it's finally done. Yay. I'm the first of my group of friends to send off an application, so it's funny to see everyone so excited for me. It's not like I've gotten in or anything. Good stuff.

MDawg, that's exactly right. However long of a shot it may be (although I think you definitely have a chance), it's a no shot if you don't at least try. E-props, e-props.

I'd never thought about sending in a picture of myself, zantedeschia. Can you? I'm sending off the optional form tomorrow. Is it okay to just attach the essay to it, because that's what I did. Anyways, yay for almost no more application stress (almost because I still have to finish up my arts submission to send off tomorrow or Friday). :)

I talked about an activity that I'm involved in that I thought needed a more in-depth explanation than the little space we have on the activities page. It was basically another essay, heheh. I love to write Just That Much.

Man, I was getting all sappy thinking about things as I was listening to the radio and driving to school this morning. I really hope that we can all get in, although I know that's going to be pretty hard to do. This lounge just proves what an awesome group of people is applying to P'ton and I know I'd be more than happy to be classmates with y'all (mmmhmm, I said y'all). No matter what happens, though, I think the next couple of months are going to be fun. Nerve-wracking for sure, but crazy fun :)

There, that's my post-sendoff sap for all of you, heh.

you guys are sending your ED apps in too early for my tastes. I'm applying ED and one of my teachers hasn't even written one of my recommendations yet! in fact, of the option rec, and 2 teacher recs, i only have 1 out of the three. my essays aren't done yet either. why are you sending your apps in more than 2 weeks before the deadline?

Because we can, I guess. I mean, what's the point in putting it off if you can just get it out of the way now? Besides, I don't know about everyone else, but I have to get started on six other applications. That's going to easily take the next two months, so I figured I should get the early one out of the way ASAP.

OK so the optional form will be perfect for me to include an essay that otherwise would not have fit into the categories on the app (its about my internship).

How nice to know thats done.

Also - I am DEFINATELY sending in an activities resume, because barely anything I do can fit into the one line on the Princeton app.

I basically wrote a quirky essay..and since there's no word limit, it's like 700 words long, lol. I don't know how my teachers are doing on their recs, but at least my part is done. I suppose I can harrass--erm, gently remind them tomorrow. Two weeks isn't a lot of time if you're just starting!

Philntex, lol you said ya'll that is such a cute texas thing. I also have to do 7 other applications, and half of them don't take common app, grr. I'm glad your friends were so supportive. I sent mine this morning, all alone with nobody to congratulate me. Sad, I know. I hope we all get in as well! You guys are great and I love our lounge.

hi guys, I've been trying forever to get my new account working for the past couple of days so far (my comp freaks out on me sometimes). I've been keeping up with the lounge religiously, and oh how i pined to post a question or response, but here and now i finally can!!
Earlier, there was a discussion about the Extended Essay. I dont know if I've been sleeping under a rock or have simply missed something, but i've never heard of the EE before! Can some one please clue me in, as to what it's about, whether its mandatory or optional, etc?

Thanx in advance

The Extended Essay pertains to IB only... it's something that must be done, in addition to the Theory of Knowledge Essay plus the CAS program. The EE is capped at 4000 words and can be about virtually anything you want, and it's mandatory for those who wish to pursue the full IB Diplomma Program. If you get I think an A on the EE you get an extra point on your diploma (you can also earn another one for an A on the TOK Essay). I think you may be confusing the EE with the Optional Essay?

I just realized that definitely is the most mispelt word in the world.

Haha. An extended essay is a requirement for the IB diploma. It has nothing to do with the Princeton's application.

Phil, it's good to have another Texan here!

I'm about to send my application, but I'm hesitant to send it in online if it compresses my essays into blocks of illegibility.

Oh well, I'll sort that out tomorrow.

I can't wait for December 15th. Aaaaaaaaah

There seems to be no way for me to fix the line breaks and indentations

But.....if you do the app online you can add extra EC boxes and APs etc.

Hmph.

Yeah, I was quite disappointed when I saw that all of my paragraphs were run together when the application was sent. I think one of the best things about the organization/construction of my essays was the format of the paragraphs. Oh well.

And I see we have a Houston-ite on the board. City slicker ;) That's cool, though. I have enough family in Houston to nearly be considered one myself, heh. And D-Day can't come soon enough, for sure.

And Zantedeschia, trumpets blare, carpets unfurl, angels sing, babies scream CONGRATS ON FINISHING YOUR APP! end noise It can be tough going through it alone, but you don't have to. There seems to be an awesome support group here, and don't you forget it!

Are we the largest of the ED groups? I think so!

Sweet. Yale's pretty vocal, too, although they're EAers. We seem to be much more talkative on this forum than on the other. No complaints here! This forum keeps my boredom at bay and procrastination high on the top of my list. Wait, that's a bad thing...

Well, the old forum didn't send you an e-mail when someone replied to your thread. This forum facilitates conversation and community, whereas the old one was more of "Can I get in to X?"

On another note, how did you write your summer description? A creative essay or a descriptive account of what you did?

Mine was very straight forward. The whole "creative essays are better" thing just doesn't work when the adcom is asking specifically for WHAT YOU DID. It seems too difficult to do creatively...but certainly dont just list the activities.

On the paper app there isn't much room so I assume they just want an informal description of your experiences, but online they say you can write up to 250 words, which is the same length as a short essay... so I am really quite unsure. I'd go informal.
