Princeton ED Lounge

I wrote an essay, but it was definitely more expository than narrative.

Hey, another EDer here.

My 250 summer essay was dry and to the point, as I believe they intended it to be. Besides, my three other required essays plus the optional essay are of the creative type, so the summer one provides a change of tone.

Alright, thanks guys. That's pretty much what I ended up doing. Philntex, Princeton is coming to Houston on October 24th, are you going?

Has anyone gone to one of these regional info sessions? My local one is on Monday...worth attending?

Yes if you haven't visited the campus.

lol, thanks for the spectacle philntex! you're right, this is a great support group. you guys are awesome. 62 days! ahh

anytime, zantedeschia :)

And Bokonon, I never got an invitation to the one in Houston. However, I got two to the one in Dallas on Sunday, so I'll be going to that one (and it's closer to Waco, too). When's the Houston one?

I'm going to send the Optional Essay as well as the Art supplement... might as well go all-out

Yea - art supplement is going out tomororw..woohooo

Not that it matters, the photo prof already reviewed my portfolio in person last week.

For the question about summer activities over the past two years, you're supposed to write a 250 word essay? I thought they just wanted a few sentences in that space. Also, are you people attaching this response or writing it in the small space given?

Writing it in the space given

typing it on separate sheet and attaching (my handwriting isnt the best in the world)

funny story about the arts supplement (although u guys might not wanna hear, it i thought it was comical). It was only last monday, at 6:30 in the morning, while eating cereal and going over the Pton app, that i realized that the Arts supplement was due Oct 15th... o.o" me and my ditzy self must have missed that. But they said that they wanted the supplements all handed in 2 weeks prior to Nov 1st, which is Oct 18th, the following monday. So i called down to the admissions office and asked them if i can come in and personally hand in the supplement form on monday, and they agreed.

So now i have 2 extra days to rush and complete my piano cd (which i didnt start), and art slides, and then take the monday off from school and drive down to Pton.... ^_^"

well that was quite an exciting story haha. too bad i live in arizona and its a little too late for that :-D

For the Summers question, are we spose to fit it in that small space? Or should I just attach another piece of paper and say Please Read Attached Paper. Do they not want a lot cuz from the sound of all you people you all call it an "essay" and lol not sure what to do

It's not really an essay in the sense that you're being creative. Just detail your summers...in under 250 words.

Wait do the optional essays and rec forms need to be in 2 weeks early too??!

no, only the additional arts supplement. the rest has to be postmarked on November 1

I'll be handing my arts form to the postman at 8:30 tomorrow morning (pathetic, I know), but at least I don't need a video 'cause I went and auditioned for/interviewed with the dance prof (who said she'd write me a rec, yay!). But a question: are you guys sumbmitting ACT along with SAT scores? I mean, I know they may not look at them, but it won't hurt to send them, right?

Wooo. Just put my Visual Arts supplement in the mail. It feels great to have finished that portfolio.

jssballet--I didn't take the ACT so I'm can't submit it, but unless your ACT score is significantly lower than your SAT score, I don't see why it can hurt sending it in.

I stayed up until 3:00 this morning putting on the final touches to my arts submission. It's a good thing I reeeally want to go to Princeton. If I didn't...oy vey. It ended up sounding great, though, so here's to hoping!

Do you think the art department prefers candidates who do abstract art or those who do representational art? I visited Princeton and it seemed like all of the students were working on abstract paintings, so I'm not sure how much my art will help me. Anyone submit a representational portfolio (with oil paintings/watercolors/pencil media)?

All of the ones i'm doing are representational pencil works. I dont think Pton favors either abstract or representational over the other, but that is only my ad hoc answer.
