princeton increasing class size.

if princeton were to inc class size by 100 per year starting next year, wont that inc the student:faculty ratio? and wouldn't that make princeton less favorable as the more undergrad focus school?? does anyone know anything about that? anything about how they are planning on still maintaining a good rep for undergrad edu?

I think it's a one time thing, just 500. It would not increase class sizes by too much and they have to do it to remain competitive w/ H & Y.

I may be wrong about the "one time thing"....

it is not a one time thing. i know that for sure b/c i called admissions and asked....
if they inc by 500 per year.. thats almost half of their class size now.. 1160.. so they would have 2000 new undergrads... woulnd that make pton not as good as it is now then?

Wow, yeah, it would...I don't see how they would fit 2,000 new. I thought they meant 500 as in about 125 per class...that's at least what the student guide said...

<a href="http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=23930%5B/url%5D">http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=23930</a></p>

It's only 125 per year up to 500...read this. I thought the 2000 figure was impossible, it just wouldn't make sense.

The good thing about it is that they'll have two 4-year residential houses now...

sorry.. yeah.. thats what i meant... from 1160 to 1285 ... not 1410 then 1535.. lol..

sorry, my bad too...by 'one time thing' i meant they would cut off after 500...there's a reason I'm not going into communications :)

that article says it started in 2003. it says "hopes to have 500 more students by 2006" and it says "increasing 125 students per year for the next four years til 2006" so meaning 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 they will add 125 per year. thats what i get from reading that article

<a href="http://www.princeton.edu/pr/facts/profile/04/08.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.princeton.edu/pr/facts/profile/04/08.htm</a></p>

doesn't look like they're doing it, though

They certainly are doing it, which is why there is construction all over campus.

The admissions officer who came to my school said they were increasing slowly. Obviously they can't do it all at once, since the new residential college isn't even going to be completed until 2007 or 2008 (she said that hypothetically we could move into them when we're juniors). It was kind of funny though, she said that it was taking so long because they have to find all the matching stones from italy or something...it isn't easy to being a gothic paradise =)

Oh and she also said that they were looking to make pton more multiculural, whatever that really means.

Oh I know they're doing it eventually...it was the timetable I had doubts about because of the recent class sizes (not much change). They added 20 last year, not 125.

That hilarious about 'finding the right stones'...I love it...

I cannot type at all. That plus I'm slightly dyslexic. Does anyone else consistently write "3" instead of "2" in math homework, etc., and omit small words when typing fast?

i think we should call to check to see if they are doing anything THIS year. i think they should. even though wheni called and she said no. i get the feeling the might not set the standard as rigid as they did b4. so they might admit 50 extra or so..

could someone else also try?

No..I don't think they are adding any new this year. They said pretty clearly at the info session I attended that the additions started in 2006...I remember the collective groan in the room.

snaps fingers Geh.

lucky us =(

i thought the four year colleges werent going into affect untill the college class of 2011, or is that what people are saying, and i just misread it.

well, when they accept people in 2006 (and increase class size), they will be accepting the class of 2011, no?
