Princeton RD 2020 thread

Hey I’m Australian so I don’t know the US college system that well. Can anyone answer a question I have: is there a close correlation (or any relationship at all) between getting accepted/rejected by public unis such as UC Berkeley and getting into ivy league schools? I’m very confused about the seemingly “random” nature of admissions in the USA…

@hiddenfalls Don’t worry too much about it. I was rejected from Berkeley but accepted into MIT (and who knows what will happen on ivy day). U.S. colleges each have different qualities that they are looking for in applicants depending on their mission is, this is true esp. since the UCs/MIT/ivies all have very different applications.

Received the email now as well.

@hiddenfalls I got waitlisted at MIT and got likely from Cornell but got rejected from Berkeley; so no

@hiddenfalls at this level of selectivity, it’s a crapshoot for anyone

Thank you @mitoops, @labyrinth1997 and @MijoChbulkan ! I also got rejected by Berkeley, but also by MIT… :frowning:

But I did get into UCLA if that’s anything…?

Thanks for the reply and help - you’ve got no idea how much it helped.

@hiddenfalls It’s great that you got into UCLA - I think they got over 92,000 applications this year? That means you were great enough that you could compete with that many applicants, especially as an international student.

My college decisions have been so incredibly random. Being accepted to MIT was a dream come true, and it just goes to show you that anything can happen! Don’t lose hope.

@mitoops - LOL your username describes my life right now; I got into MIT RD and I’m still confused as to how.

@hiddenfalls The UCs are typically less selective than the Ivies; however, they favor in-state students at the expense of out-of-state students and focus on scores at the expense of “well-roundedness.”

Just received the email at 9:03 and I am from CA.

I also just received an email at 9:30. I am from the midwest

Finally got the email at today at 12:34am. - FL and last name C.

I got the email at around 8:30 am, maybe around 10 PM EST  :)) Haven’t checked Berkeley results, as I have an exam on Saturday, and I don’t want the possible rejection to stress me out :)) Anyway, best of luck guys! Just a few more days to Ivy Day!
Also, best of luck to Stanford applicants! (Yay another possible destruction of my Horcrux that was my application to the university :(( )

@blazedragon Ayyyy I like your HP reference!

Got an email yesterday it’s Official
31st!
Wait…we all knew that.
I’m nervous.

Lol I got the email so even though I knew it wasn’t important I came on CC immediately to see what conspiracy theories you guys may be coming up with

@lfnousWHO did your email not have a period after browser or was it a copying thing? Mine had a period there. Probably splitting hairs but I’m so nervous might as well look for some clue hahahaha

I love all the conspiracy theories here! Yes, of course Princeton would include an exclamation mark at the end of one sentence in the applicants that were accepted and a period in the ones that were rejected, because that’s their way of letting those who were accepted know they were accepted! As much as I enjoy this, and I tend to overthink things too, this is getting ridiculous! Relax, go take a walk, there are still 6 days left!

@lalalalaa LOL

Too much fun to speculate!!!
