I think it's because people need to either
1) Justify that the university they chose to attend is the superior one of the choices they had to choose from.
2) Because of 1), it invokes other people to come in and defend the university they attend causing a never ending argument.

Because when you have to decide between these two schools, you want to choose the right one; but sometimes they seem so similar that it seems impossible to decide.

I've been on this forum for a little while and I've never seen anything comparing the professors at the two schools. Sorry if my post was repetitive.

I'm all about people making informed decisions. However, I think it's silly to base those decisions on inconsequential ratings instead of how good of a fit the school is for the particular person.

Mostly I was commenting on the fact that discussions about ratings which may start out innocently (as this did) seem to ALWAYS degenerate into petty arguing. I have as much school spirit as anyone else around here, but i just think it's an enormous waste of time to engage in a playground style argument over who goes to a better school on the internet.

I think discussions about ratings and such would be just great if people were engaging in them out of genuine interest (as some people did seem to be) instead of some silly, juvenile sense of egoism or defensiveness or whatever else it is that makes people launch into these crazy attacks.

Just look at the USNWR rankings.. they're generally pretty consistent and reliable, and that's why they're the most popular rankers.

(Seriously, who gives a crap what princeton review thinks!)

Realiable? Hmmm . . .

---allie----, you're not going to graduate with triple honors from any school. It doesn't really exist. Who calls any honors "triple honors?" Perhaps you'll get Summa Cum Laude, but good luck with that, as it's a lot harder than typing something on the internet.

What I meant by "triple honors" is Latin, College, and Departmental. Essentially fulfilling every honors option available to me.

And really, that's not the point. No need for personal attacks.

It's not a personal attack, I am actually just pointing out that it's harder than it seems, exalting those who received it. Sorry if it diminished you in the process, it wasn't my intent.

Obviously maintaining high enough grades to graduate Summa is difficult. I don't think anyone would think otherwise.

And alas, I'm not diminished.

End of discussion?

Please . . . .
