What's the a cappella scene like? Any current students care to give their impressions of the different groups?

I went to an arch sing when I stayed with my brother last year. We were wandering around campus at 11 o'clock at night and there were several a cappella groups performing under one of the arches. It was amazing ... they were all goofing around and singing pop songs, but they sang amazingly.

personal soft spot for the katzenammers....maybe cause one of my best friends is a member............and they're awesome anyway! lol

i am deciding between princeton & the brown PLME (med school) program and i just wanted to know how the workload is at princeton if one wants to go to med school.

thanks!

does anyone know of any way a prospective student could arrange to stay overnight at pton with someone? the admissions office said they didn't do that kind of thing.

Princeton gets a lot of interest from prospective students, obviously -- so they limit their attention to students who have gotten in. Apply first, get in, and then you'll be invited. It's all they can do to get enough students to host during the official Admit Weekends in April.

(I've heard people accuse the admissions office of being a little unfriendly in this regard, but seriously: If they let every prospective with interest stay, there would be random high schoolers in every freshman's room every weekend. Think about it.)

Should I use my ap credits if I have them to enroll in an upper level class? I want to major in mol bio so premed, but I know the courses are hard so I don't know if I would burn out taking upper level classes early.

something i didn't know as an incoming freshman is that almost EVERYONE repeats classes they can pass out of with AP credit. I would recommend doing the same if you want to be competitive

i dont agree with that, if you're premed and mol major and have ap bio credits, then there's no reason to take eeb 211 (you can't place out of 214 if you're a mol major) also gen chem has a difficult curve, and theres no real reason to take that if you place out of it either. I wouldn;t necessarily take orgo first semester of freshman year, but orgo and gen chem have little to do with each other. Science courses in general are not easy, theres no reason to take more of them than you need to, its better to take an easier humanities course to up your gpa

Taking the basic science courses would give you a stronger foundation to take the MCAT, wouldn't it? If not, Then why do most people retake those classes?

What do seniors take if they've satisfied their departmentals and distribution requirements? Do they finish by taking really easy classes?

Senior thesis

Is the senior thesis one class that lasts the whole year?

You take electives... there's a minimum number of courses, so you have to be taking something. I'm pretty sure the senior thesis is an additional requirement for ABs, while for me as a BSE it counted as two classes.

People retake classes for which they're overqualified to minimize risk... to ensure a high GPA. It's actually really obnoxious, from the viewpoint of someone like me who had no AP science credit coming in and suffered as a result.

the thesis counts as two classes for ABs, but the JPs are additional requirements for certain majors (ie dont count as classes) while other majors have junior seminars that count as classes

Does Princeton look at Freshmen grades? Does Princeton accept ACT?

I am also a princeton student. Yes, Princeton looks at grades from all four years but the later years are more important. Yes, it takes the ACT.

Thanks. But from what I've heard, P takes into account the ACT ONLY IF the other schools one is applying REQUIRES the ACT. Is that true?

I've never heard of that rule b4.

Not true. Princeton doesn't know where else you're applying to unless you tell them.
