for my favorite quote: “He explained to me with great insistence that every question possessed a power that did not lie in the answer.” Elie Wiesel, Night
@appletree456789 I read nine stories.
Catcher was my listed favorite book
Just another data point, my son was asked for his Q1 grades last year and was accepted SCEA.
are there people who weren’t asked for q1 grades and got in from past years??
@ZetaIntegration You should read his novellas! They’re awesome.
To those whose counselors have been asked for Q1 grades, are your schools quarter-based or semester-based?
@idekanymore1 Yes! There were definitely applicants who weren’t asked but were accepted.
@mich408 Mine is semester based with progress grades coming at the 6-week and 12-week benchmarks (18 weeks total).
@m139pl Is your son attending? How does he like it
@MiCh408 i was asked and mine is semester based
I was asked for Q1 grades, but my school runs only on semesters. My GC told that to the Princeton rep who then replied that progress grades would work too. So my counselor just gave her my grades as they were that day. @MiCh408
@floraha Ah, I love your quote so much! It really resonates
Something else I’ve been thinking about… how much does it matter to live in NJ? According to the graphic Princeton has on their website, about 15% of the class of 2021 is from NJ, but is that because more people from NJ apply? or does admissions favor the community?
@orgooo All the NJ kids could have a lot to do with sports and recruiting… the admissions department may not favor them, but the college scouts might.
@orgooo As much as I’d love to think it’s about favoring those living in NJ, it’s probably just the applying thing. I’m from central NJ and literally everyone I know is applying to Pton. Plus it’s one of the only good schools NJ has, so people end up applying just for the heck of it too.
Could you delete the post above this one please and keep this one. This has the correct link. Thanks.
I agree with @Tanzerina – it’s in the area and is one of the only nearby choices that is exceptionally good.
On top of that, New Jersey has a lot of highly qualified applicants to begin with. You can look at a college somewhere completely related to NJ–say, a school in California–and it still wouldn’t be surprising to see NJ as one of the top 5 states for enrolling students.
By the way, if Princeton gets more than one early applicant from the same school, will they refer between the applicants in order to get a better feel for their high school, or are the applications viewed entirely separately?
Yes to both.
Generally, all applications from the same HS are read at the same time in order to view in context of the school. But each student is evaluated on his/her own merit. Also, there is no quote/min/max per HS.
