Princeton Waitlist Thread Class of 2019

Thank you ! Your posts are very helpful! I truly wish you the best of EVERYTHING at Princeton.Never doubt that is where you truly belong. Many blessings

Thank you to everyone who has posted. My son is on the waitlist. A tough time. Anyone gotten off the waitlist yet?

What exactly is a summer melt? Why would the number of students who already commited to go be reduced by as many as 30 or 40? How long does it take for the ‘melt’ to happen?

I feel being from a family neither poor as to qualify for financial aid nor super rich as to be able to give large donations is at a total disadvantage nowadays. I’m a parent and I have a suspicion this is the way nowadays.

@susyf68, summer melt refers to the collective group of students who committed by May 1 to attend a university (typically with a deposit) and then for one reason or another do not. For example, a student who committed to Princeton but was also on the waitllist for Harvard/Yale/Stanford/MIT and then is admitted may subsequently decide to instead attend H/Y/S/M. That’s of course just one example. Student circumstances change sometimes and universities want to ensure that they backfill slots to get their numbers before the academic year begins.

@cttwenty15 Thanks so much for the reply!Wish for the best for everyone.

Has anyone heard anything new regarding the wait list? Is Princeton using it?

@Vin520 have you emailed admissions again? If so, what was the response?

Haven’t heard anything…

@klp2015 I have not emailed the admissions office again because it is pointless right now since the admissions staff probably don’t know how many they are going to admit just yet anyway. If last year was May 22 for the earliest waitlist, then we should wait till that time too and see what happens. I don’t have high hopes for to get off the waitlist. I’ve done everything I can to ensure myself the best possible chance and I’m sure everyone else has done the same too. Good luck to everyone. And as I said earlier, it’s better to get a pleasant surprise than a rejection so commit to your other school. It’s only a 2% chance.

i will take it that at least 20 will be coming off the wait list for an estimated 2% chance of admission

GL ALL!

My D just received a call from New Jersey and was offered admission. I guess they’ve started to take students off the waitlist.

Does your D live in NJ/east coast?

No, in the West.

Anyone else receive a call today?
