I’m going to discuss this with my roommate when we get assigned rooms, but I just want a rough idea:

Do people usually bring printers, or go to the library or something? Is it usually one printer per room, or does each person have their own?

I know dorms aren’t wireless (South Quad), so can we bring a router and make the room wireless? Or is that not allowed for some reason?

People usually don't bring printers. All students get 400 pages of printing a semester from University computers (and all the dorms should have a computer lab with a printer). Engineers get a few thousand pages of printing. There are also a few ways to get unlimited printing (for example, if you're taking a math class that requires a mathlab account, you get unlimited bringing in the basement of East Hall).

The 9th floor of South Quad does have wireless. Wireless routers aren't allowed in the rooms, but I think a few students use them anyways. Just go to monoprice.com or some place like that, and you get a 50 foot ethernet cable for under $10 (or 100 ft for under $15).

I was very glad that I brought a printer. Sometimes you need to print things in color and sometimes you just don't feel like walking to the computer lab, so a printer is a nice thing to have. If you are in LSA, you will probably use up all of your free printing...you will have essays, powerpoint slides (sometimes up to 10 pages per lecture!), readings, etc. I'm in Engineering and usually used about 375/400 of my LSA printing and 500/2000 of my engineering printing. Plus I printed in my room when I needed color or it was late at night!
