Priority Class of 2016! Who is nervous?

thanks for the explanation…stochastos, are u a recruited athlete/do u have very high grades haha?

haha I didn’t put any sports on my app and my grades are decent but not that amazing.

I think my biggest strength was my extracurriculars. I have some awards from math and computer science contests, as well as research experience from a few CS projects during the summers.

@stochastos what does your likely letter say and also when is it dated? im wondering if they have not mailed all of them yet

Hey, there’s no sent date printed on the actual letter but the stamp label says 12/23/2011.

Since I got mine from my specific department (math/cs) I’m assuming the mailing date could vary depending on your area of study. I’ve also read that they send them out one-by-one as they review the applications, and that sometimes they stop sending them before they even finishing reading all the apps. All in all, I wouldn’t be too worried if you expected one but didn’t get it.

The letter itself was two paragraphs. The first went into some detail about which of my awards/extracurriculars they found impressive. The second talked about specific UMD programs that might appeal to me. They also offered to either set up a meeting with a professor or arrange for me to attend classes with a current student.

Edit: by stamp label I mean the automated printed stamp used by institutions that send out lots of mail… I don’t really know what to call it lol. it’s ink printed directly on the envelope.

that the acceptance rate of priority admission applicants are accepted?

Everybody read this question. Nobody knows what you’re trying to say.

But assuming it’s true: Will the matriculation rate of accepted students be matriculated?

I’m so nervous! I just logged onto my account online and it says: “application status: completed 1/7/2012.” I’m not too sure what that means exactly, but I applied in the middle of October and I can’t wait to receive my admissions decision.

@Fieldhockey2012: I just logged on and mine says the same thing. I’m not sure if that means decisions have been made or not but I would like to find out. I submitted my recommendation letters online and it says they were submitted but not received. Does anyone else’s say that?

Mine does too! Don’t worry about that, I had my guidance counselor call in and the online system is apparently down, or was. Check the bottom of the page where it says “other documents” or something like that, it should say they’re received there. there’s a note at the top of the page saying not to look at the recommendation column and straight down to the “other documents” column for recommendations

I looked in the other documents section and it says mine were recieved. Thanks I was beginning to get nervous. But yea I’m nervous about recieving my decision. My grades and GPA are good but I only got a 1740 on the SAT because I don’t take tests well and I am not good at math. I’m applying to the limited enrollment criminal justice program so I hope they keep that in mind.

@Science4: Here is a link for the University of Maryland College Park Honors College website [Honors College University of Maryland](http://www.honors.umd.edu/) . I hope it helps.

Only about 3 more weeks guys!

how are we finding out? anybody know…mail? email?

[qoute]how are we finding out? anybody know…mail? email?

If they do it like last year, you will get an email on January 31, and then a formal letter in the mail a few days later. The email will tell say if you got into a LEP and if you got Honors, Scholars, or any other program.

Good Luck all!

Ah I see, you’re all very nervous about being accepted. I was too, extremely. Mostly because I was lazy with my application and quickly filled it all out on the day it was due, Nov 1st. I filled out the priority application for last year and by shear luck, I was accepted.

The fastest way to find out that you’ve been accepted is to check your online acceptance status everyday. I don’t believe they’ll send you an email about it, but I could just be remembering wrong. I think I checked online around Jan. 15th and it was posted that I have been accepted. And it wasn’t until Late January or maybe early February, that I received the acceptance letter in the mail.

Though I’ll have to warn you, even though I did the application by the priority deadline, I was pushed to start for the spring semester instead of the fall semester that I applied for. It was said because there were “space limitations”. I had two other friends that applied as well, (not priority). And they were accepted for the spring semester, too.

I don’t know if it’ll be the same for all of you, but it’s a definite possibility.

My first semester at UMD starts this month, and I’m very excited.

I wish you all luck on your acceptance.

Does anyone have any insight for either of these questions?

I know UMD uses just CR + M for SAT scores, but what score is used for ACT? Is it the composite or E + M? Just curious because composite includes R + S, so score would be higher if just E + M are used…

Also, do they look at SAT II’s for scholars/honors (I know, not for admission)?

Many thanks, and good luck to everyone!

AHHHHHHHHHH!

I’m so nervous; I applied to the journalism school, which is an LEP!

Good luck everyone!

I applied to LEP Biochemistry and I am so anxious ahhhh everyday I get more nervous and excited at the same time my love for this school has doubled since I applied!

Wow… seems like everyone applied to an LEP! I applied for “Government and Politics”. Hope that’s not a hard one to get into!

how do you “apply to a LEP”? i put down finance as my major so does this automatically consider me for the smith school of business?
