Private schools near the beach/mountains?

I want to go to a school where I can keep surfing, but that has some wildlife and mountains for a change.

I live in FL now, not even on an ocean so just about anything is an upgrade for waves.

I have a 29 on ACT, like 3.7 Weighted, and Varsity Lacrosse.

oh and they don’t necessarily HAVE to be private, I’m just looking for a school on the smaller side with an awesome campus.

PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY!!!
Best College On The Beach

also look at:

Beach: UC-Santa Barbara, University Of San Diego, College Of Charleston, St. Mary’s College Of Maryland, New College Of Florida, UC-Santa Cruz

Mountains: Clemson University, UNC-Asheville, University Of Utah, University Of Colorado

FL (Florida) is on an ocean but…

University of Miami, Tulane University, Pepperdine University (Smaller than the others)

If you can stand the cold, several of the Maine schools come to mind. The College of the Atlantic could be a fit, although it’s extremely small.

This guide covers surfing options at several colleges:

No we have a the Gulf here, not an Ocean.

Good point lol, but the east coast of Florida is ocean…

For mountains you could also look at University of Vermont, Saint Michael’s College (VT), University of Denver.

ya, but I’m trying to find a college with both mountains AND an ocean hahaha.

i’ve never been in the mountains though, think it would be a cool change for college.

actually Pepperdine and other coastal California colleges have both because they are on the beach, yet the Santa Monica Mountains run next to the coast

ya Pepperdine seems sweet if I could get in…

I bet the girls are amazing.

Pepperdine isn’t too hard to get into, the average ACT score is between 24-29 so you are on the high side and the average GPA is 3.65 so you should definitely have a shot of getting in.

And yes the girls are amazing haha

how about Furman?

Furman is slightly harder to get into, the ACT average score is 25-30 and the average GPA is 3.54. I know 3 people that are going to Furman next year and one person on the basketball team and they’ve had nothing but good things to say about the school.

I’m planning on going to Clemson next year and that school (along with Furman) is the best university in South Carolina. If you want many academic options, a beautiful setting next to a lake and in the Blue Ridge Mountains (and if you love football), I would highly recommend Clemson.

Another SC college to look at is College Of Charleston, beautiful setting on the coast in the city of Charleston.

I’m thinking UC-Santa Cruz might be a perfect fit for me.

Is the population ALL hipsters and hippies, or are there some jockier preppier kids there also?

I have nothing against hipsters, and have many friends and associate with many artsy kids, but my core group of friends tends to be a more jocky preppy crowd…

Lehigh University - in the mountains and a top tier school. but a very bad male to female ratio haha too much of a sausagefest

Connecticut college has a few beaches near it, if you’re counting colleges that is

UC-Santa Cruz has a reputation as a liberal/hippie school, however, it is a very large school so there are people of all walks of life.

I also highly recommend UC-Santa Barbara

pierre

We spent a few days last month visiting Furman and Clemson. We liked both but my daughter loved Furman. They have an amazing Psychology program. She is going there this summer for the Summer Scholars program. The admissions criteria, though, is very tough. We were told that the average SAT score was 1300 and most kids had at least 5 AP courses. It is her reach school. It is interesting to hear that you know people going there since no one seems to know about this place.

To the OP, the mountains around Furman and Clemson are great.

Check out the Claremont colleges (Pomona, etc). Pomona actually has a celebration day off where the kids spend half the day skiing in the mountains and half at the beach…both are that accesible. Good luck in your search!
