Problems filling out CSS/PROFILE

I already filled out FAFSA. When I registered for CSS/PROFILE it said:

"Our records show that you have already registered for PROFILE. Please exit PROFILE and sign-in with your original user name and password. If you have submitted your application and need to send your information to additional colleges or programs, click on 'Add Colleges to Submitted Application' on the PROFILE Home Page. As part of the process to send your PROFILE information to additional colleges or programs you will have the opportunity to update the information you provided when you submitted your application. If you have forgotten your user name or password, or feel that you have gotten this message in error, please click on 'Contact Us' above to contact a College Board representative."

are FAFSA and CSS/PROFILE the same thing? If i send it one do I not send in the other?

They are not the same- administered by different organizations. FAFSA is the basic one that pretty much everyone requires. CSS is required in addition by some schools, mostly private and more elite publics. CSS has some extra info asked for like total retirement savings, home equity and a few other things that vary from school to school. Perhaps you started one once to take a look at it and forgot? You can recover your PW from collegeboard. If you actually filled out CSS in a previous year completely, you would remember because they charge fees.A basic fee to fill out the form, and another for each college to which you submit.

I don’t mean to distract anyone from your issue, kool, but I also had a problem when filling out the CSS/PROFILE. It asks when my parents bought their home. My parents do not own a home. My dad filed for bankruptcy and his name is no longer on the mortgage. It won’t let me submit the profile until I answer that question. It says I am allowed to leave it blank if it doesn’t apply but it won’t let me submit it. Any ideas how to resolve this issue?
