Problems with the mail

For my college apps, I had to send some material via mail to the colleges.

Most of what I mailed was in large 9x12 envelopes. I put 2 stamps on them but my mom now thinks that might not be enough. First of all, do you think that would be enough for a 9x12 envelope and a couple of pieces of paper?

If that is not enough, what happens now? We did not put a return address since most of the envelopes were from my teachers or counselors that they just gave to me. In this case, would I be completely screwed or is there a chance the post office is holding on to them and I'd be able to go in and just pay for the additional postage?

So if I am completely screwed, would colleges be understanding towards this if I had to send transcripts/letters of rec/counselor reports late?

i’m not sure about how the mail system works, but from what I understand, colleges are fine with the supplemental material being a little bit late as long as you submit the actual apps on time

How late is acceptable?

I won’t be back at school for another 2 weeks. If I get to my teachers and counselors right when I get back, I’d probably have to give them another week or so to redo the letters of rec and teacher evaluation forms. It might take my counselor an extra 2 weeks from than to fill out the counselor forms again because he’s slow and the guidance office will be hectic with schedule changes the first week of the next semester.

I’m worried because I just called USC and they don’t have anything scanned in my profile yet.

Two stamps ($0.88) is not enough for a 9x12, unless it weighed only one ounce. Anything over an ounce for a large envelope costs $1.05 and up.

If possible, immediately e-mail everything that was sent. If that’s not possible, immediately re-mail it.

And in the meantime, call the school(s), tell them what happened, and vow to never, EVER, mess with stamp estimation again. If it’s important, either bring it in to the post office, or, better yet, use UPS or FedEx.

EDIT: I just realized you will not have contact with your teachers for two weeks. You will have to call the schools pronto. However, as long as your app is in, you can rest easy. They won’t mind if recs are a little late.

Do call and check, re-mail or email if needed, and you must put a return addr. on all pieces of mail that you’re sending out! Good luck!
