Hello everyone, I’m new to the site and this is my first post. I never had procrastination issues in the past as far as I’m aware. That’s why my struggles to finish my AP summer work are unique. I just started yesterday. My summer work consists of essays for AP history, AP English, and then these rather long AP bio packets. I feel so out of the school mode. I find it hard to sit down for more than 30 mins without the need of a break. Altogether, I have to do 8 essays between English and history, and I don’t know if 18 days is enough. These assignments are due on Sept 1. I want to get back in the school mode. Perhaps my discussion title is wrong, maybe it should be called “focus” problems. My question is this, what can I do to get myself back into “school” mode and ready to tackle my course load. My classes for next year are AP History, AP English Lan, AP Bio, Trig hnrs, Precalc accel, Spanish 3 hnrs. This is also my first year taking AP’s, however that goes for everyone else in my class as well because my school forbids sophomores and freshmen from taking on AP classes.
I am having this same problem with my assignment for AP English. Until the beginning of this month I just kept putting it off, but I finally started the assignment because I kept telling myself that there are huge consequences for procrastination. My assignment is due on my first day of school (August 23rd) so basically I have to keep warning myself that if I don’t finish, I’ll fail (because I’m usually really conscious/worried about my grades). I hope that helps! Good luck!
Keep in mind that people are creatures of habit. If you keep doing the same thing, you will keep getting the same results.
Examine your habits and try to figure out how they lead to the procrastination. At that point, you need to break that habit; simply do something else.
For example, if you come in from working out, grab a snack and sit down to watch something for 20 min before you “get to work”, you may find yourself getting distracted or napping or getting a phone call before you get to the work part.
Maybe you should then try studying before the snack or even before the workout.
Make a list of everything you need to do, divide it into chunks for each day you have left in your summer break. Make tomorrow your “first day of school” and complete the first chunk, the next chunk the next day, etc… Don’t do anything else fun until the work for that day is done. If you try to do it all in one big cram it will be overwhelming. If you really want to do well, you have to make a plan and stick with it. This is true for school and the rest of life.
