Wait I want to set this straight: should the common app & supplemental essays be double or single spaced?

I’ve searched through CC, Yahoo! Answers, Essay Forums, etc. Every source is different! Some say single spaced is required, some say single spaced looks professional, some say double spaced is required unless otherwise indicated, some say double spaced is easier on the admission officers’ eyes, and some say it doesn’t matter. What is the true answer?

If it tells you what to do, then do it that way. For example, Princeton wants single space for their supplement, while Rice wants double space.

If it doesn’t tell you, then I’m not sure how you should do it. I don’t think it really matters that much if they don’t even bother to tell you how to do it (I’m thinking of the CommonApp essay here).

haha this is so funny. For a while I thought I was the only kid who still had to do supplements for emory, cornell, northwestern, Michigan…
I got two questions: first, what is the latest time tomorrow you should send in your app cause i don’t want to risk a server crash. And secondly, I can’t decide what to list DECA (business club) as on the activities section. I was thinking maybe academic or career oriented but im not sure. Any thoughts?

Hello fellow procrastinators!
For some colleges, the regular decision deadlines shown on the school website and the overall supplement page as January 3rd, but in the individual supplements, it says January 2nd! Which ones do I follow? I would really like that extra day.

Submitted my jan 1 deadlines in the last two days, still have jan 2, 3 and several for jan 10 - 15 and about four for february.
Nice to know i’m not alone - just when i thought I was done, the fin aid forms still need doing. This application business is no joke!

I just became aware of the secondary school form and my app is due tomorrow. My friend is calling my guidance counselor to see if she can get a hold of her, but will I be able to send my app without it, and if I can what should I do?

quick critique? procrastinated the activity short answer xP

I have trained preschool hands in the art of the ABCs and revealed to third graders that even one kadrillion times zero is still in fact zero. Simply put, I teach kids in summer school. But my role means more than just teaching. I am creating history.
Everything a kid learns affects his/her future. It will define the person. As I guide Gary’s hands in completing his O’s, I guide him to a door to innumerable possibilities. Someday he may become a praised author, or just one heck of a good essay writer. Perhaps by learning her multiplication table, Robin will eventually become an innovative physicist, or just an A+ calculus student. It’s a privilege to have such influence on kids.
Teaching the kids has made me a better person. I leave every summer with a bit more patience, self-control and optimism. What an honor it is to teach.

Submitted my NYU supplements yesterday, tightening up my Sarah Lawrence essays as of now, and will begin writing my personal essay from scratch in about an hour or so. I’m fairly confident that I’ll make it before 11pm or so…hopefully. I’m running off of 3.5hrs of sleep, cigarettes, coffee, and a tiny bit of will-power.

So do the apps need to be submitted by 11:59 eastern time or by whatever region we live in? I live on the west coast and could really use the extra 3 hours!

@dansurxd - Overall very good. However, the sentence “Teaching the kids has made me a better person” is extremely cliche. I would either omit that or change it drastically.

I am almost done with the UVA supplement. Then I still have to do Princeton’s supplement: I have to edit the summers essay, write the other, and answer a couple more of the short answers.

Is this a form in addition to the Common App counselor rec upload–like what Pomona has? The sort of thing you have to mail?
If so, you will be able to send the app, which you should. Get that in by the deadline and hopefully the school will be more lenient about the deadline for the form.

I just submitted 7 schools in the past hour or so. I’m glad to be done with that, but I’ve got Pomona and Rice due tmr, and I haven’t started their supps! Then Chicago on the 3rd, another school on the 15th… plus winter break hw I have yet to start. Oh, it’s gonna be a fun weekend.
