Producing necessary financial documents

Okay, I need a very clear and precise answer here. I went through several colleges' websites and found that even to get their I-20, I need to provide them my financial documents like Bank Statement and Employee statement. But do I need to provide all these documents right at the time of submitting the common application or after being selected? Thank you in advance.

Each university has its own policy but typically you only need to submit the financial documents when you apply for financial aid ( the school will tell you if they want the ISFAA or the CSS Profile.) In addition, if you apply ED, the financial documents are due at the same time as the ED application.

My own experience has ben different. International applicants who are not applying for financial aid are often (though not always) asked for the Certification of Finances form at the time of the application. That’s probably done to avoid admitting students who wouldn’t be able to attend anyway, which ‘protects’ the university’s admission and yield rates.

The clearest and most precise answer you’re going to get:

Every university sets their own rules. The admission section of the university website will spell out the documents required for admission to that particular university / program at the university. When in doubt, contact the admissions office and ask. Or you can choose to send the Certification of Finances form and supporting financial documents to every university as a precaution when you apply. It will never hurt your application, and worst case scenario they’ll ask you for the documents again in May.

You need to submit the physical copies of financial documents themselves when applying for I-20 and F-1. You don’t need to send them to colleges at the time of the application. You need the information in those documents to fill in CSS profiles, though.

Many selective schools will require you to fill in Certificate of Finance, ISFAA, or both.

I contacted with the financial aid office of the college I am applying for ED, and they told me that they need the financial documents like Bank statements and Employee statement and the due date is December 1.

Weird…i never was required to aubmit such thing but okay
