Profile of someone accepted to IIT

Allegedly, an IIT acceptee considers Harvard a safety. What are their stats like?

Basically if you get into IIT, you are THE MAN, even if you
re a girl. You basically have to be raw at life.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/361380-application.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/361380-application.html</a></p>

So basically that^^^^ is an average IIT applicant ;)

^ Wooow.

o_O I bet they don't even know what the Simpsons are.

Im not questioning the strength of the IIT student body, but unless everyone there can get to be at least a IMO alternate for their country, I doubt that was an "average" applicant. That guy had some seriously amazing stats.

What/where is IIT? I think I've heard of it but don't know what school it is.

"What/where is IIT? I think I've heard of it but don't know what school it is."

It is a cluster of 7 schools in India.
IIT rejectees with wealthy parents often go to MIT and Caltech. I personally know of a person who went to MIT when he was turned down by both the IITs and even BIT. He was an interesting character who had a profound, positive influence on me.

However, I doubt that a typical IITer would bother to consider Harvard as a safety since Harvard is not particularly strong in engineering or science.

I don't really think you can compare the "stats" of IIT applicants with the "stats" of applicants to like MIT and stuff since the application processes are really different for both colleges.

well, it's pretty insane, they accept like a little less than 1% of their applicants.

^Because so many more people apply to those universities.

Yea, i know, but the thing is they are all qualified. It's not like some 3.5 1700 student is going to apply to harvard...most people are qualified and they just pick the best....im sure it's the same in India.

Look, India's population is MUCH larger than that of the US. It naturally follows that according to the bell curve distribution, there will be more people in the extreme right

(and actually India's bell curve distribution is really weird due to the caste system and inbred families that India has, so strictly speaking, it has lots of different bell curve distributions corresponding to each of its numerous inbred populations).

But he didn't apply IIT...
