Progressive Rock

Yeah, it was great!

IMO it is one of the best prog rock songs of the new era. I may even say ever. The album was intended as a whole piece of music, so if you ever get free time, I would recommend the entire album. Robert Fripp guests on one of the songs. Also, if you liked that, you should listen to their song Arriving Somewhere But Not Here. Slightly more commercial than Anesthetize (and probably a better place for you to start lol)

How about Gates of Delirium by yes? The part at 12.5 mins always gets me

Gates of Delirium is a fantastic track!

@Hermit9 Just got done listening to it. Definitely one of the prog masterpieces! Now I am listening to Dancing with the Moonlit Knight by Genesis

That’s a great song too!

Today I’ve been revisiting Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco, Is This It by The Strokes, and OK Computer by Radiohead.

I feel like OK Computer definitely had a lot of prog elements cough Paranoid Android cough and I feel like it is really overlooked in terms of prog

OK Computer is an amazing album. I’ve literally listened over 100 times and it still amazes me. Paranoid Android is its best song.

Fun fact: both rateyourmusic.com and besteveralbums.com have OK Computer ranked as the best album of all time ahead of Dark Side. RYM lets users rank albums out of 5 stars, and with around 2,000,000 ratings on the top 100 albums alone, OKC is number one. BEA lets users make greatest album charts and compiles over 20,000 charts to rank the best albums. Again, OKC is number one.

If you want to see the actual charts:

I am a member on Sputnikmusic.com. It sounds like a similar deal. I think that OKC was an extremely important and influential album, but my personal preference would be Dark Side. While OKC was decades and even centuries ahead, no band will ever come close to another Dark Side. That is just my $0.02; take it for what it’s worth :3

Wow, SM is great for album reviews! I’m a BEA member and do a lot of reviews. Here’s my Top 67 Albums chart if you want to see it: http://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=16531

Do you have any reviews you wouldn’t mind sharing?

BEA also has track ratings based on hundreds of votes for each major song (less for less popular songs). Pink Floyd is the only band that appears in the top 10 songs list more than once, and they have four songs! (WYWH, Time, Comfy, and SOYCD. Meddle is ~15th). Beatles have #1 with A Day in the Life which is one of the first progressive songs ever and arguably my favourite Beatles song. Paranoid Android is 2nd overall.

I actually haven’t written any reviews yet! I mean to do one for Fear of a Blank Planet and one for the new Iron Maiden album, but school got in the way. This weekend I will do one!
Your list is very intriguing. I’ve never heard of a lot of the bands on it, so I can’t really argue with your picks

Thank you! Which artists in my top 10 weren’t you familiar with?

Neutral Milk Hotel, I know the Velvet Underground, but still haven’t listened to them, and Nas

Now that I’ve slept on it, I do think there are some albums you missed. What about Appetite for Destruction by Guns ‘n’ Roses? Or Who’s Next by the Who? Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominoes? The Wall by Pink Floyd? Number of the Beast or Powerslave by Iron Maiden? Back in Black by AC/DC? 2112 or Moving Pictures by Rush? Tommy by the Who? Ten by Pearl Jam? Origin of Symmetry by Muse? Led Zep ii and Physical Graffiti?

Btw David Gilmour’s new solo album is out today!

@TheWaffleMan149 Who’s Next and Powerslave are on there. Only 1 album per artist, too.

Back in Black may make the final cut along with Appetite. I haven’t listened to Layla, but have wanted to for some time. The others probably will not make it.

You need to listen to VU, they’re absolutely amazing and there’s nothing like them. Nas is a phenomenal ip hop artist. NMH is indie-folk, but their music is VERY unique and atmospheric. I don’t know about the latter two, but you’ll probably like VU.

I made a pretty basic list of my favorite albums. You’re going to hate it :3 This was an impossible task.
