Progressive Rock

I definitely hear some similarities in there. It is a pretty interesting song

I’m glad you did. I was worried you might not like it because John Lennon does vocals on it too, but I figured you might at least like the riff.

Their only other metal song is Helter Skelter and it has McCartney, who isn’t nasally, on vocals. In fact, the vocals are screamed at parts.

Actually, my favorite Beatles song is While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I particularly like the version that Eric Clapton did with Paul McCartney (and I think Sting) a few years ago in memory of George Harrison. Completely forgot about that one

I thought you would have hated Harrison’s voice. I love that song!

I am just a particularly big fan of Clapton’s guitar work. He is the man!

A bit of a shift in focus: What do you think the best decade in music is?

I think overall, I would definitely say the 70’s. No question about it. 80’s is second. What about you?

According to my charts it’s 70s, 60s, 90s, 80s, 00s, 50s, 10s.

However, I’d probably give the slightest edge to 60s over 70s, followed very closely by 90s and then 00s. Then there’s a pretty big gap, and from there I’ll say 80s just ahead of 50s, with 10s in last.

So really I’d go with 60s, 70s, 90s, 00s, 80s, 50s, 10s.

With all 7 major decades, how would you supplement 70s, 80s?

I’d probably say 70’s, 80’s, 60’s, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s, 50’s (I haven’t really listened to any 50’s)
I’ve gotta give the edge to the 70’s. It’s hard to beat Zep IV, 2112, CttE, Selling England by the Pound, most Pink Floyd, Red, Tarkus, etc

Wait did you say at one point that you don’t care for Rush?

80s, 70s, 60s, 90s, 50s, 00s, 10s.

80s have everything, 70s and 60s have great rock, 90s have REM, I’ve only heard a little bit of 50s but what I’ve heard is good, 00s have some good but the crappy reigns supreme, and the 10s have Kanye and annoying pop and not nearly enough redeeming songs.

@awesomepolyglot I would like to introduce you to The Book of Souls by Iron Maiden
Also, DT is coming out with a new album next year. Took as well. I will reserve judgement on the 10’s until then

@TheWaffleMan149 Not a fan of Lee’s voice.

EDIT: Yes, I’ve heard 2112.

Have you heard 2112?

@TheWaffleMan149 listening now

What about La Villa Strangiato? It’s an instrumental that’s 9 mins if Geddy Lee annoys you

@awesomepolyglot Have you read Anthem by Ayn Rand?

No, is it available online?

Probably. Point being that 2112 was heavily influenced by that book. We read it for school last year :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, but 60s has VU&N, Sgt. Pepper, Odessey, Doors, Highway 61, Black Saint, Led Zep I, Forever Changes, E Ladyland, Folsom Prison, Pet Sounds, Trout Mask, Van Zandt, etc.!

For 70s I love the hard rock, prog, punk, garage rock, and soul, but the glam rock of the mid 70s kills it for me.

80s: Honestly, the best thing about the 80s are the late 70s and early 90s hahaha.

90s: Post rock, grunge, hip hop, shoegaze, art rock, and indie. GREAT decade.

00s: Like 90s, very experimental and good, esp. the first half of the decade.

10s: Too early to say.

50s: AMAZING jazz, traditional country, rock and roll.

Just started. The lack of personal pronouns is a little odd, but hey.
