I did the same for two weeks two summers ago. It’s really hard for me to even put it on anymore, though.
Yeah I agree. I made that mistake with a lot of albums. Now I am really hesitant about doing that kind of thing. I did it with Metropolis Part 2 early this year, and then more recently, Fear of a Blank Planet
I wish I had never listened to Pink Floyd so that I could remember how amazing they were when I first started listening.
I still remember the first time I consciously heard them. I was on the way back from dinner with my parents 3 or 4 years ago, and Time came on the radio. I will never forget those 7 minutes.
If you had to rank the songs on DSOTM from best to worst, how would you do it?
I really can’t do that because it was intended as one solid piece of music, but I will try.
- Time/ Breathe Reprise
- Money
- Us and Them
- Brain Damage/ Eclipse
- Any Colour You Like
- Great Gig in the Sky
- Speak to Me/ Breathe
- On the Run
What about you?
- Time
- Us and Them
- Breathe
- Great Gig
- Any Colour
- Eclipse
- On the Run
- Brain Damage
- Money
- Speak to Me
Depending on the day, I would change Money and Us and Them on my list. I don’t see how you can list Speak to Me separate from Breathe, and Brain Damage separate from Eclipse. They are always played together on the radio. I, for one, always play them together
How would you rate tracks on WYWH?
That’s like asking me to compare the first part of Echoes to the second part. Can’t be done!
- Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts i-ix)
- WYWH
- Welcome to da Machine
- Have a Cigar
I have a question for you. How would you rate Pink Floyd epics? By epic, I mean the longest song on each album.
Mine exactly!
I do like Have a Cigar though, and probably listen to it more than WttM
Probably as follows:
- Echoes
- SOYCD
- Dogs
Gap
- Saucerful of Secrets
- Interstellar Overdrive
- Comfortably Numb
- Us & Them
- Atom Heart Mother
- High Hopes
The rest.
Honestly 4-7 could be rearranged.
I am slightly disappointed that you put High Hopes last. Where is Sorrow?
To be honest it’s been over 2 years since I’ve listened to MLOR or any of their other albums not listed.
High Hopes is by no means bad, it just comes across as stretched out and too desperate. The uniqueness of SOS and IO lead me to place them so highly. In the past, AHM would have been top 4. I overplayed it though.
Atom Heart Mother is fantastic. Gilmour is a beast in that one
You’re honestly the first person I’ve met who has heard AHM, much less appreciates it.
Lol same with you. I have listened to every Pink Floyd song, and 99% more than once. I haven’t listened to AHM in a while though because I found some other stuff that shifted my focus away from the Floyd
On a completely irrelevant note, you should listen to La Villa Strangiato by Rush. It’s completely
instrumental, so there are no lyrics. Not sure why, but I think you would like it
