Prom too expensive?

Oh, go to prom, it'll be fun :)

Our school's tickets are $50...but my date paid for my ticket, my portion of the limo fee, my portion of the after-party fee (hotel plus...um beverages lol), and the pictures. Aaaand I still spent $700+ lol but it was worth it, it was one of the best nights of my junior year, and it was a great way to go nuts after APs were over with!

sounds like fun.^^ and really cheap for you too lol

$700+ is really cheap?!?!

i mean in terms of what she payed to school.
i'll be wearing my dad's tux anyway so I guess I'll save him some money LOL.

pchakravarty - good job on Jeopardy ;)

I can't believe the number of people on here who are such party poopers about school events! Prom most likely will not be the highlight of your life (sad if it is!) but it is PROM. The last thing you and your high school class will ever do together. Even if you hated high school, Prom is a very fun way for you and your friends to just be silly and buy into a nostalgic tradition.

I don't understand all the cynical people who cite Prom being too expensive, too dorky, too overrated, etc. to go. Sure, it is overpriced and probably overrated. But I guarantee you will have a better time taking part in an American teenage rite of passage than sitting at home with your emo friends watching cult movies or doing homework.

I just graduated high school, and I definitely was not the Prom Queen...in fact, I didn't even go to a few school dances. But I went to most. Some of them, I was reluctant to go to. But I always had a great time when I did go. Especially at Prom, people dance with everyone, no matter who they are. Everyone is in a great mood.

Think about the other ways you might spend the 90 dollars. On clothes? On movies? On mindless entertainment during college? All those things are so insignificant. You will forget them all within a week.

Prom, on the other hand, is something you will remember for the rest of your life. Good time or bad time, you will remember it. If you were Prom King or Queen, a brainy person, a goth, a punk, emo, valley girl, skater, whatever...everyone remembers it.

stuck-on-1700...I don't know how old you are, but if you don't want to pay for a limo, ask your parents to borrow their car (if it's nice). You could even ask your friends' parents if you're close enough, seeing as they have to really trust you to lend you an expensive car for a night. It's an inexpensive but classy way of getting around. My best friend's favorite part of prom was getting picked up and chauffeured around in her date's dad's Jaguar convertible :)

i guess i could take our car.. it's a toyota corolla 2005 model.
by friends parents have never met me lol
