Proof of Citizenship?

The SS administration did not verify that I am a US citizen and I have to provide proof of citizenship. I've called three schools so far and they told me to fax them a copy of my passport. I was just wondering if it mattered whether it was in color or not, because I don't have a color fax machine. Also, what info should I provide on the cover sheet?

Thanks for your time

No, it does not have to be in color and you do not have to fax it in color. If you have received an e-mail or letter and there is a person’s name attached, I would recommend that you fax your information to the attention of that person. make sure you keep a copy of the fax confirmation that you sent it.

I would follow up with a hard copy of your documents in the mail, including a copy of the fax confirmation in the mail. Go to the post office and send it with a delivery confirmation.

You also could ask the person if they would prefer that you email a color scan of the photo page of your passport.

There is no reason for the copy to be in color. It just has to be clear and easy to read.

Also … are you a citizen? If so, please contact social security to make sure your records are updated.
