What postage do you need for the big manila envelopes? I used a 58 cent one for my UNC rec, but it hasn't gotten there yet for the EA deadline, so I'm scared I used the wrong postage. And one of my teachers sent off recs for other RD schools with the 58 cent stamps on it..

Are these 9x12 envelopes? My son used those, somewhat heavyweight. I took them to the post office to be weighed and here's what I found:

For the envelope plus 1 or 2 sheets of paper, I'd need a $1 stamp.

For the envelope plus 3+ sheets of paper, I'd need $1.17 in postage.

If there's a return address on the envelope, you (or the high school) will get it back if there's insufficient postage. You're probably ok though - I don't know that every piece of mail is weighed before it's delivered. Also, the recs can go in late as long as your application itself met the deadline (for most schools, anyway).

Ok, thanks. Anyone else have any comments?

vballmom is right, you need to pack up each set, and then take them to the post office to be weighed so that the correct postage is put on them. If you stay alert, you will be able to figure out how many sheets of paper you can stuff into an envelope of a given size for what price.

normally 3 stamps is sufficient

It depends on the weight.
Prices and Fees

Our guidance office requires 3 stamps on the large manila envelopes.
The envelope contains the student profile form, rec, school report and transcript.

Teacher recs (and the resume we sent) were put in regular white envelopes with 42cent postage.

The mail was delivered to our schools so the postage has been sufficient.

If it is just the teacher rec you are worried about, give the teacher another stamped envelope to mail the rec again.
