Considering majoring in Accounting, any advice? & does USF or UF have a better Accounting program
UF has the better program (US News has it ranked 11th in the country), and UF is the better overall school. UF is also recruited by more national companies.
However, USF can get you where you want to be, and if they are offering a substantial merit award, you should consider them.
When budgeting for college keep in mind that to become a CPA one now needs 150 college credits (a typical bachelors degree is around 120 credits) – many go on for a one year Master’s in Accounting to meet this requirement. The top firms won’t allow accounting professionals to start work full time until they have the 150 credits.
As for the colleges you can ask career placement which large firms come to campus, how many do they hire etc.
check out linkedin alumni section and see how many folks are at Big 4 firms and where. That will give you an idea of the quality (and marketability) of the program. Most kids from both stay in state. UF has a better rep as the state flagship.
Also some do their undergrad wherever and choose to get the 5th yr at a heavily recruited school (that assumes you gain admission)
