Pro's/Con's of Dorms...

I've been accepted and am currently filling out the housing application. I would think the super-block area is the most social and at the moment my top two preferences are the freshmen only dorms (Frontier and Territorial)

So.....what's the pro's/con's of:
Frontier, Territorial, Centennial, Pioneer, Sanford.

I don’t know much about them either, but if I go there, I’m going with territorial or middlebrook (suites). if you want to join a LLC, that makes it easier to pick a place to live since LLC’s are assigned to a dorm building.

you can check here for info
http://www.housing.umn.edu/halls/index.shtml

why do you want to live in a dom in the first place.
They are soooooooooooooooooo expensive

Centennial is very quite. and I like the single. And the dining hall runs until midnight. I like Centennial except the price. Pioneer doesn’t have a elevator, moving will be a nightmare. Sanford is far away.
Maybe I am biased.

in response to tonyCC, students who live in dorms are more likely to actually graduate…

plus students are more able to feel like part of the university if they actually live there, have easier access to health facilities, libraries, etc if living in the dorms

I don’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to live in the dorms their freshman year (unless cost is that big of a factor). It really helps you connect with other freshman and feel a part of campus right away. Plus it’s always fun living in a building with 700 other college students!

Rundown on the dorms:
Territorial-Super Social, always people doing something, easy to meet people, can be loud at times

Frontier-Fairly social, a bit quieter and laid back than T-Hall but still good to meet people

Centen.-I wouldn’t suggest unless you’re not a freshman. Good if you want a single or something quieter.

Pioneer-See Centen.

Sanford-Good-Food, close to Dinkytown, rooms are nice. Bad-Not close to the Superblock

Comstock-See Centen.

Basically if you’re a freshman pick T-Hall or Frontier. You get to meet other freshman right away and build friendships. If you’re a super social person pick T-Hall first. Otherwise Frontier is a great way to go.

Hope this helps!

jota- what do you think of middlebrook?
i territorial is my first choice because it has the carlson LLC. and then idk if i want to put middlebrook or frontier as my second choice.
overall, do you think its wiser for a freshman to live in any superblock over middlebrook?

I personally am not the biggest fan of Middlebrook if you’re a freshman. I have friends (who are freshman) that live there and they enjoy its quirkyness and everything, but I would much rather live in an all freshman dorm. I wouldn’t say it’s better to live in any Superblock over Middlebrook, just the Freshman dorms for sure.

So maybe do this:

  1. T-Hall
  2. Frontier
  3. Middlebrook
    …whatever else.
