Prospective Student Recption

Does anyone know anything about the Prospective Student Reception? Is is just informative of will there be a chance for any 1:1 interaction?

faffy, it depends on the city of the reception. Here in NYC there were about 200 prospective students and parents. However, it still felt intimate because the Tulane rep. recognized my daughter from a school visit and they were able to chat for 5 minutes. They also met at a college fair. By the time she applied they were well acquainted and that might have helped with the process. Daughter is loving every minute of her first semester at Tulane. So I suggest that you go to any and all events that give you a chance to personalize the experience. Good luck!

My s had a very similar experience, onceburnt. He met the regional rep at a college fair and then attended a local reception. He went up to chat with her after the presentation (very easy to get plenty of face time with the reps) and she greeted him by name! Fast forward to an on campus prospective students visit several months later (where there were hundreds of students and parents) and she again greeted him by name. It is quite impressive.

Wow, I wish I had that talent. That really IS impressive. Of course, I am sure they take extra time and attention to get to know the very best students.

Yes, he and I were both extremely impressed by her ability to greet him by name both times! Granted, his name is a relatively easy name, but still-- they meet thousands and thousands of people.

When we were there for the prospective students visit that fall, school had only been in session for maybe 2 mos. A relative’s daughter was a freshman there that year. She took us up to meet Pres Cowen after his presentation, and he greeted her by name! It really was all around very impressive!

Five years ago my D attended one of these here in Connecticut. It was staffed by recent Tulane Alums from the area. The reception hall was quite crowded, but D had a long and productive discussion with one of the Alums. YMMV.

I actually attended a Tulane reception a couple of weeks ago. When I walked in, the admissions person gave me a name tag and a hat, and instructed me to go into the main room. There was a maximum of 15 other students there. He talked a little and then we watched a video then he talked some more and answered questions. He was also available afterward for more questions which would qualify for 1:1 interaction. There were also a lot of informational papers available. It was basically just a complete informational session.

Thank you all for the great information! One more thing, what would be proper attire?

A Tulane shirt :D
