I am going to be applying to the University of Washington for this coming summer quarter from Green River Community College, and I need an idea of what to expect in the results of my application.

As of now, I have a 3.5 GPA. I expect it to drop because, being the managing editor, ad manager, and news editor of my college newspaper has taken up a lot of my time and energy. In high school, I barely cared about my grades. I skated by with a 2.98. I probably would have cared more, but my parents didn't really show that they cared about me; they were alcoholics.

From the age of 9 to 18, I lived with my parents and little brother on a mountain called Mt. Hull. We didn't have running water or plumbing, and winters where barely survivable (3-4 ft of snow with non-public roads and subzero temperatures). The day I graduated, I came home to find my parents drunkenly packing my things. My emotions were very mixed; I was both relieved that I didn't have to live with them, but saddened by the fact that they wanted me to leave so badly.

After the summer ended, I had to move to Kent — over 200 miles away from my home town — to attend community college. The reason I am telling you guys this is because I wanted to know if I sound like what UW wants. I understand that this a very small amount of information, but I just wanted to know that if this seems like a strong basis for a UW worthy personal statement.

Thank you for reading this.
