I am planning on applying to UW this upcoming winter and was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat? I know it is a bit early to start a thread, but I just couldn’t wait!!
Not sure why it is too early to start a thread… The application for Winter is open:
I am! although I have not yet completed over 40 credits, so I have an extremely low chance. If it does not work out then I will re-apply for fall 2016 and so on. I am a bit too resilient
What are your completed credits/stats if you don’t mind me asking?
Great to hear that you are planning on transferring to the UW!
I actually transferred into the UW last winter, with about 50-60 transferrable credits (Transferred after a full year + 1 quarter).
As far as stats are concerned, I can assure you that although your GPA plays an important role, the fact that you have all, if not most of your pre-requisites completed is very important.
I transferred in with a (3.3 CUM/4.0 Pre-Req).
Also, be very meticulous and attentive when writing your essay, be sure to standout and be unique. The panel goes through thousands of applications, which read BORING BORING BORING all over it.
Best of luck to you.
Hope you join the Dawg Pack very soon!
I am also a prospective transfer!
I’ve submitted my app already.
I will have my 90 credits, and pre-reqs for my major (PH).
I have some Running Start credits with a horrible GPA, but my transcript is definitely upward trending. Right now I’m at a 3.37 cumulative. I’m not sure if this matters, but my GPA for my AA is ~3.7. As for pre-reqs, I’ve got a 4.0.
What majors are you all applying for?
Hey everyone!
I am another prospective transfer. I will have completed 90 credits by the end of this quarter at my CC in WA.
My GPA is 3.76 with upward trend - first quarter was bad, but since then I have had about a 3.91 GPA.
My prereqs are pretty much all done at this point - only one class that I haven’t taken, not counting what I will be taking this fall.
I’m just applying for a general transfer right now, but I plan to be a math major (which is a primary focus of my essay).
I am struggling mightily with my essay, however. I’m not sure how to fit in all the topics suggested on the UW website without my writing seeming choppy or disorganized.
How are you guys handling the cultural component of the essay? I’m talking about how my family has influenced me - is that the kind of thing they are looking for?
Thanks in advance!
How can I make sure that I am completing the correct prerequisites??
uwhusky1997- it depends on what prerequisites you’re talking about! If you are in Washington State, you should check out the course equivalency guide for your CC: https://admit.washington.edu/EquivalencyGuide
Otherwise, it just depends on major. I would take a look at the major requirements you’re interested in. It can’t be a bad idea to get English 101 and 102 done, and other basic courses.
@uwhusky1997 There are two different sets of requirements to get into the UW. There is the CADR (http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Transfer/CADR) and whatever requirements your major asks for. Without knowing your major, it is impossible to answer your question.
I just submitted my application, hopefully I get in! I will have 66 credits by winter quarter, and my current cumulative GPA is 3.94 (not including some random non-transferable credit that I got in high school) and my pre-req GPA is 4.00. I think my odds aren’t bad, although I’m a bit concerned about my credits - 30 of them are from AP credit, and I’m not sure how admissions considers AP credits for transfers. Do they count the same way towards my total transferable credits (ie 66 as opposed to 36)? I’m just worried that I’ll be at a disadvantage because not all of my credits have a grade attached to them.
Submitted my app and mailed everything in today. I’m excited to hear back! I think my chances are pretty good. Let’s hope the adcom agrees.
Any other nervous nellies out there who applied for Winter 2016? Due date is tomorrow night!
@Uwthrowawayay I believe your AP credits will transfer just fine, and will count as credit you are transferring in.
Well, the My UW information has been sent out! Is anyone nervous for November?
hey guys, thanks of the info so far. Prospective Winter 2016 Junior direct transfer here with 120+ credits, two associate degrees finally lol, this summer, from Wa state junior college, with honors (Phi Theta Kappa member).
So Western just accepted me for Winter Quarter 2016, and I have to confirm in a month. Is there no way possible I will hear yea / nay from UW by then?
Ahhwell - there are far worse problems in life. WWU is beautiful and a great school up here. It’s just not UW…I really want to know if I’d be accepted.
Best wishes to those waiting, this is difficult. I keep checking My UW every day for the little tricks showing there is movement in my application but nothing past the basics so far. Ok later!
@agentcooper I know I’m nervous! It’s only been a little over two weeks since I sent my application in and I’m already having nightmares about being denied admission. :(|)
@nicoli UW says they send out admissions information in late October to late November, so I don’t think you will hear from UW in the next month. In past threads, seemed like most admits heard by mid November. If I were you, I’d hold out for UW! You can apply for WWU spring quarter by Jan 15 and if I don’t get into UW, that is my backup plan.
Thanks @snailshellz , that’s probably what I’ll do too. Glad to know I’m not the only one! The power of networking. Have a great one. Will keep tabs here as well, it’ll be exciting to see folks start to receive their admits from UW.
This thread is dead compared to last years that i’ve been reading, so I wanted to join this one.
I’m a transfer from a WA CC with an AA, and almost an Associates of Business. I applied for an open major for winter 2016, and plan on switching to Construction Management in April when the app opens.
I highly doubt it, but has anyone heard anything yet? Either rejections or admission?
Im in the same boat @dubsup! Also sad at how inactive this thread is compared to last year’s.
Really nervous. What are your stats if you don’t mind me asking?
I have a 3.6 GPA (with 90+ credits by the end of this quarter), transferring from Washington community colleges into a nominally competitive humanities major.I have completed all the prereq’s for the major, plus courses at UW fulfilling some of the actual major requirements. I’m a non-traditional student, and I get the impression UW admissions prefers the traditional young students. So yeah, I’m nervous. I’ve invested a lot into completing requirements that are specific to this UW major. I’ve completed all my prep course work according to UW’s special requirements, and with the hope that I’d be able to transfer there. So it would suck to not get in-- especially over something I can’t do anything to change, like age.
@qwertyytrewq2 Don’t stress on the age thing. I entered as a transfer in winter of 2014 at the age of 37. There are surprisingly more non-traditional students than you would expect and ample opportunities to get involved. I’m on several committees with younger students, have received multiple scholarships, and engaged in faculty mentored undergraduate research since shortly after my arrival. This is not to say that ageism isn’t a thing here; I had one Professor that could not let my age go. But that was his issue not mine. Also, if you are a married student or student with kids, there is decent UW housing close to campus and activities for kids.
