Winter 2017 Transfer Thread

Thought I’d start the thread, applications due in 15 days or so, good luck to you all! My chances aren’t too high, but I got a great essay, well defined goals, great grades (3.9) last few quarters at CC. In state btw

@SowellKnowsBest Your chances look like they are good. I reapplied for the winter 2017 quarter when I didn’t get accepted due to not having enough credits when I submitted my application for the autumn 2016 quarter. I called and talked to the admissions office and they told me what my issue was. I think the only problem would be if your major is competitive. On top of that for those of us who are applying ahead of getting our AA degree, it is harder to get in. You have to have good grades which you do. If you don’t have at least 40 college credits then admissions will look at your SAT/ACT scores along with your high school transcript for reference. So the great grades you have at the CC will be overshadowed by the high school transcript.

These are my stats if you would like to compare:

I have 60 College Credits
3.83 GPA
I joined Phi Theta Kappa (Not sure if it will help)
I also applied for an open major.

Btw colleges also look at the rigor of your classes. My Stepmom used to be a professor at the UW and she told me that I should take more 200 level courses because admissions will look at that.

@Aharris1105 that’s my gpa over the last few quarters. My overall is a 3.1-3.2, and I have taken nothing but hard ass classes. I have about a 3.8 for me prerequisites, and I wrote a detailed essay about what I want to do (Econ w/ ROTC). My brother somehow got in with a 2.8, so I don’t know.

@SowellKnowsBest How many college level credits do you have?

A lot, like 104, ending with 110. Only 90 transfer, and I got all but 1 prerequisite knocked out (class wasn’t offered at CC).

@SowellKnowsBest you should be fine then. You’re actually in better shape than me. I only have around 60 college level credits it will be more after I finish this autumn quarter.

@Aharris1105 60 credits right now? it means you will at least 80+ after winter quarter ?

@Aharris1105 Regardless, my brother got in with a 2.8 (somehow), although he put his interest as neuroscience. Perhaps that’s not a competitive major. My exact Cum GPA is 3.13 btw.

@thaipq That’s if I don’t get in to the UW for the winter quarter. I applied for the fall quarter but I got denied because I only had 25 credits at the time. I thought that they would count my credits from the winter and spring 2016 but they didn’t. Only what was on my transcript at the time. That’s what the admissions officer told me. They told me to reapply for the winter 2017 quarter because I now have over 40 college credits and I have a good gpa.

@SowellKnowsBest they only count college level classes. So is that your gpa with or without what the UW counts. What will be your transfer GPA?

https://admit.washington.edu/Admission/TransferGPA

3.13 is the cumulative transfer GPA
my prereq GPA is somewhere around 3.7,
and my recent GPA is about a 3.8

I was a running start student, and most of my bad classes are in subjects I don’t wish to study. (Chemistry, Physics, etc.)

I also intend to do ROTC, which I included in my essay, no idea if that helps. I thought the essay was pretty stellar though.

@SowellKnowsBest I know what you mean. My bad class was statistics lol. I got a B in that class. For my science class I took environmental science 210. It was actually pretty fun.

@Aharris1105 Since you apply for an open major, you will have a fair chance to get it.
@SowellKnowsBest it depends much on what major you apply for, and I think you should spend time on your personal statement to explain why you did badly on these courses.

@thaipq already submitted my apps to UW and WSU. Wrote a pretty bitchin personal statement.
@Aharris1105 I got an A in stats, easiest class ever

@thaipq did you apply for the winter quarter? I thought you got accepted for the fall quarter.

@Aharris1105 nah, I got accepted this Fall. Just checking the forum to see if someone needs help.

If I don’t get into wsu or uw, id probably choose option 3.

Do I have a good chance at being accepted into UW Seattle? I will have an associates degree with 90 credits from SPSCC(WA Community College) at the end of this year, my cumulative gpa will be 3.52 with my last 3 quarters being 3.6+ gpa, I have 4 W’s on my transcript though, but I was having some personal problems in that time, I have a great upward trend though.

Also, I would like to note that I have 75 credits right now, and I’ll have 90 by the end of this year.

I have no idea. Depends on your major, essay, and course difficulty. I took the hardest classes available, and paid for it.
